My biggest problem is with the name.

"Dude do you want to go play XBox 360?"

"Yeah man XBox 360 is dope! Tight!"

"Dude let's go get stoned and play XBox 360!"

Horrible name.

I hardly play my Xbox now, I doubt I'll be jumping on the 360 any time soon.

PlayStation 3 will most likely be more powerful than X360. That and I've always seen the best thing MS ever had was Halo.

Revolution is more a matter of existence than combat.

P.S. Sorry for being gone for so long. I've spent the last 3 weeks seizing the day; whatever that means.

It looks nice, but what ever happened to innovation?

All I see these days is consoles that are the same as their predecessors - but infinitely faster.

All of this happened when Sega left the field, in my opinion. THEY WERE THE HARDWARE INDUSTRY'S DRIVING FORCE!

Sega's Innovations:

First true 16-Bit gaming system: Sega Genesis.
First system to feature parallel processing - Sega Genesis 32X.
First system to have built in 3D video - Sega Genesis 32X.
First system to have parallel video/CPU capabilities: Sega Saturn (They were hard to get to work, but they were there...).
First CD-ROM based system with integrated FMV (Full Motion Video) support: Sega CD
FIRST SYSTEM TO FEATURE ONLINE PLAY OUT OF THE BOX: Sega Dreamcast.
First system to support trilinear filtering for textures: Sega Dreamcast
First system to feature DirectX/WinCE compatability - Sega Dreamcast
The Visual Memory Unit - Sega Dreamcast
FIRST SYSTEM TO SUPPORT DYNAMIC LIGHTING - Sega Dreamcast
FIRST AND ONLY SYSTEM TO SUPPORT 3D GLASSES: Sega Master System

Nintendo's Innovations:

First system to have a GPU capable of rendering arcade-perfect graphics: NES/Famicom

First 64-Bit machine: Nintendo 64

First system capable of mipmapping: Nintendo 64

First system with a wavetable synthesizer: SNES/Super Famicom

Sony's innovations:

First system to support DVD Playback: PlayStation 2

First system to have a dual analog stick controller - PlayStation 1

Microsoft's innovations:

First console with a hard drive: Xbox

First console hardware compatible with x86 computers: Xbox

TALLY TIME!

Sega: 11 Valueable innovations.

Nintendo: 4 Valueable innovations.

Sony: 2 Valueable innovations.

Microsoft: 2 Valueable innovations.

If I buy a new console, I want it to do more as well be faster, as would a PC. And I do not see anyone doing that .

I know I love Sega but I am far from a fanboy - I appreciate all systems and software, but I feel Sega was infinitely better in the first department, and sometimes in the second.

I guess graphics always take a backseat to gameplay with you guys .

The Genesis has one of the best libraries ever.

Enjoy your future 1983-style gaming crash. I'm avoiding all the new consoles until the libraries have something that hasn't been done twnety times over...

You know, there used to be this thing called innovation, but greed killed it. Check out Doom 1/2, Virtua Racing, Descent, etc. to see what I mean.

Shut the fuck up about Sega. If Sega was so damn fantastic, they would still have their own console. The one or two games that went somewhere apparently weren't enough to keep the company going.

junglizm
05-13-2005, 05:21 PM
Havok, that's so true. Sega made a few decent games, but always failed at the console market. Now they're just making game, and their games are marginal at best. Sega is dead.

Nostalgia is cool, but you really don't have to mention it in every single post, troll people's replies and generally be a fanboy. Just shut up for once, and not shit on threads.

I am running out to Gamestop tomorrow and I will burn $40 ON GENESIS AND SNES GAMES - BECAUSE I NEED SOMETHING THAT I HAVEN'T PLAYED IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER FIFTEEN TIMES.

1) If you dont like FPS, then dont play them. As I've suggested before, go masturbate anime porn and play some RTS or mmoRPG.

2) The gaming industry is VERY diverse. There is a game genre for EVERY person. You can't tell me that The Sims and Unreal Tournament 2004 are alike in ANY way.

3) Lack of innovation? Hardly. Since the early 90s, more and more game titles have been released. We aren't OUT of ideas, we're just refining the ideas we have. The reason people dont get tired of playing "the same old shit over and over again" is because they like the game type. Graphics have become AMAZING in a short period of 6 years (ex: Half Life 1 vs HL2). Speaking technically, we have processing power that allows programmers to create detailed environments so surreal that it's sometimes hard to tell what's reality and what's fantasy. Game engines have become much more stable as well. But back to my point: You can make 1000 maps or you can make 10 maps for Counterstrike Source, a game I love...I'll still sit there and play it for hours because it's what I like to fuckin do. I think most people would agree; just play the genre that suites you.

4) If you aren't entertained by the premesis of video games anymore, then pick up a new hobby. If you've gotten to the point where you play so many games that it just makes you mad because there isn't much variation between what you play, you might need to either find something new or vary your choices.

Sorry for the long post...I was just completely in disagreement that you think the gaming industry has lost it's innovation. That's just bullshit.

Actually the Genesis was an extremly well system. It had some of the best games around and was extremly fun.

That may have been true, in 1998, but it's 2005 now and Sega is hardly staying a float in the industry. Who cares? This thread wasn't about Descen'ts elitist opinions of Sega, it's about the new Xbox. We really didn't need the fanboy commentary in yet another thread.

The story lines and games were well thought out and it game ideas came from a wide varitity of people. Stuck in the 1990's I am not... In love with my Sega, I am...
I don't know what you’ve been playing, but the games I play are well thought out, and appeal to a variety of people. If you limit yourself to just RPGs(or whatever), then don't complain about there not being any better games.
The fall of sega is really a suprise to be honest but eh...
Why was it so surprising? Sega was horrible at reading the market, they screwed themselves too many times. What about the Saturn? A waste of R&D, they no doubt lost their ass on that. Then the Dreamcast came out, only to be forced out by the PS2 a few months later. Now Sega just makes marginal 'updates' to their classic games, it's quite pathetic. I'm surprised they're not completely out of business yet.
I just want some better games to start being realesed where i don't have to keep buying more and more systems
When is the last time you had to buy a new system? Six years ago when the PS2 came out? Four - five years ago when the Xbox came out? You've got to be kidding me; five years is plenty of time for an upgrade cycle, in fact, it's longer than most people keep their PCs. I really have no clue what you play games on...
Most of the systems are just miner upgrades
So you're saying the PS2 was only a minor upgrade to the Playstation? Seriously, what are you talking about?

Can you honestly back up that statement?

i think that the point all these people are making is that games are beginning to feel repetitive. awhile ago it wasn't easy to make a game, that today is hard ot make. when FPS started to become more popular any storyline was different because there were so few and people were so new to them. the point i think people are making is that the only things taking place in the gaming industry at this point are really better graphics and new storylines, but no "new" games. by new game i either mean a whole new genre that hasn't been seen or a change in the basic mold of a current genre of games that is good. there isnt a huge difference in all the FPS's besides the storyline, graphics and guns. i havent come to a point where i feel that games are too repetitive, i still feel like a little kid having fun when i play anything. im still happy if you throw me on a crappy mini game in any game. but to some, games are becoming repetitive. how many war games can we make before that is exhausted. it feels exhausted right now. they need to make a War of 1812 game or a Mexican American War game. those games would be new and something different. one shot unnacurate guns that take forever to reload, and swords are still a weapon that isn't laughed at when the other guy's got a gun. i have plenty of games that i love that were before my time or even made during a time when i was too little to play them, but i played them and i think they are good. im not going to drone on about how good they are b/c that wouldnt accomplish anything.

let me conclude what im saying with this: i think that people just need something new to the gaming market in terms of gameplay and storyline, that hasn't been tried, or hasn't been tried enough. how many people can't name one WWII shooter, or one game where you have a sword and you have to stop the evil wizard? games like this are overdone and some find them repetitive. MGS was a great game because a stealth shooter wasn't something well known when it came out (im not talking about the original one, cause that wasn't really a stealth game what so ever). now plenty of people have capitalized on that idea and when i play a game like splinter cell, not much is new to me. i still enjoy it though. skateboard games, are so overdone, but i remember when they made THPS, which (not the first skating game, ive played 720), but it was to my knowledge one of, if not, the first 3d skating game, and it had plenty of stuff people weren't used to. i think i made my point which is that something innovative and new wouild definitely be welcomed. i can't really think of anything though because so many games covering so much stuff have been done. a new model to games would be good. i got one actually:

it's called soccer mom. the missions include making dinner, and driving your kids to games. the problem is i can't get the game to feel different from GTA3 (in my head).

Controller

The Xbox 360 has the capability to support four wireless controllers. Additionally it can support three wired controllers through the use of its USB ports (two in front, one in back). The wired controller corders are nine feet in length and are breakaway similar to those use with the Xbox.

The controller for the Xbox 360 is a similar yet improved version of the Type-S gamepad for the original Xbox. The Xbox 360 controller, adds the new feature of the Xbox guide button, which has the appearance of the Xbox 360 emblem and is surrounded by a ring of light. Pressing the Xbox guide button will bring the Xbox 360 out of sleep mode or instantly bring up the "Xbox Guide". The ring of light lights up to designate what controller "port" the gamepad is currently using and which console (if more than one) the controller is connected to. The black and white buttons have been redesigned as shoulder buttons, now refered to as bumper buttons, located above the left and right triggers. The rear of the controller has been redesigned to include a new port where the player can connect a headset. The new port replaces the old multi-purpose connector on the front of the Xbox controller.

Xbox Guide

The Xbox Guide is a tabbed interface that contains several features such as:

Xbox Live

Those are some very high ball projections. I highly doubt they will make it into the final Xbox 360. If they do though, I hope you like the idea of a $1000+ gaming console. Microsoft is well know for over hyping their products, then releasing lesser versions.

Actually, according to what I've read the Live Silver will be free. But you won't be able to play online etc... for that. More like free Xbox chat rooms. You still have to pay to play. Although they are claiming there will be free preview weekends where silver members can play limited games etc...

I find it interesting that the Xbox and the PS3 are both using customized PowerPC processors from Big Blue (IBM). I guess either way you cut it, IBM comes out ahead on this one.

I have no money for an xbox 360. or a ps3. no matter what they cost. The way I see it XBOX 360 and Nintendo Revolution are the consoles to buy. The both making complete turn-arounds(the name of both spells it out) which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They are going to be the ones to step it up and provide gamers with awesome gameplay that we've all come to expect. Halo 3 is supposedly going to launch the same day as PS3. I'm not dogging Sony yet, though. I know that my friend went through 3 ps2's because he watched movies on the crappy dvd player. Only time will tell.
