First off, notice the 'PlayStation 3' in spiderman font. Strange, but if you look up the specs on here (ps3.ign.com) you'll find that this machine is fucking ridiculous in power.

The controller is an obviously strange thing. It looks like some kind of fucked up mule

To say the least my friend. I'm already hearing shit about internet access, online friend lists, mp3 playlists, saving movies, the news. PlayStation 3 will pwn. My only concern right now is pricing. They say the graphics unit is more powerful than two nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra Video Cards, an over $1000 value. This shit is scary. I can only hope that the production cost is low.

Backwards compatible! Fucking SWEET! YES!

It makes buying it more easy to sell to the wife!

This machine is going to kick much ass! Oh yeah, and my pocketbook!

Only pray that this 'Cell' bullshit is easy to produce. Or they'll go all RIAA on us and price the shit stupid.

Proof that PlayStation 3 pwns Xbox 360. (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614783p1.html)

It's a good day to be a Sony man. I hope Microsoft enjoyed it's fifteen minutes of fame. Now nobody gives a fuck about Revolution, or Game Boy Micro.\

The best part: GRAND THEFT AUTO IS A LAUNCH TITLE. The pwnage is simply knowing this is awesome. Some day in Spring 2006, we'll all bring home our PlayStation 3's, and start playing Grand Theft Auto.

I  Sony.

ummm, the PS3 doesnt look that much better than the 360 in terms of specs and in some areas the 360 in fact beats the PS3 additionally the 360 is sechduled to come out in november, while the PS3 is scheduled to come out in one year plus however many times they postpone it, and you know they will.

I kind of have to agree with the Wizard there.

For the most part they're both right on par with each other's stats. Both companies are known for overhyping the capabilities of their platforms as well but when you look at the specs, there nearly equal in most regards.

One thing that does interest me is the controllers. Both are going wireless which is good but I'm afraid the bluetooth will hurt the Sony. The limited range could be a problem. Granted, next to nobody sits all that far away from their TV when they play so this could be a moot point.

All in all, I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I'm going to wait until the PS3 launches and see how they truly perform, how much they truly cost and how many games they truly have.

It is nice to know the PS3 will be backwards compatible... a feature MS has been suspiciously quiet about.

Still, think about it. It's about as good as X-Box, along such features as backwards compatibility, and PSP linkage. But then you throw in all the crazy games (Killzone 2, Grand Theft Auto 6, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5) and put them against X-Box (Uh.... Halo?). And PS3 pwns it.

I'm certainly getting a PlayStation 3

Don't ever believe Sony's pre-launch specs, because they are usually bullshit. The PS1 claimed to process 1,000 MIPS, while a Pentium-75MHz could only do 50. Guess what? The P-75 was much faster.

They pulled the same shit with the PS2, saying that it could pull 75 million polygons per second. Well, it can! In Atari Jaguar mode! In other words, every polygon would be flat shaded, so it would be one color. No texture. With full details on, it could pump 12 million. And don't forget that it's full screen anti-aliasing quality is worse than any console to date, including the Dreamcast, tied with the GameCube for FSAA quality (Hence why many Dreamcast, Gamecube, and XBox games look smoother visually than their PS2 versions due to this).

By comparison, the Gamecube can pull 10-12 million full detail, the Xbox is about 100+ million no details (Don't know the specs with all details on), and the Dreamcast can pull a solid 7 million w/ all details if you don't have the CPU offload some of the polycounts, and you can bump it up to 10-12 I think with the CPU assistance.

The PS2 wasn't even that fast of a machine...It's developer kits are still crap, so coding on it's a bitch.

I personally never believe Sony's specs until the system launches and deveopers share their experiences fucking with it. Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft have never really lied yet so far, hence why I will always believe their specs before it launches.

I know this sounds stupid, but what does it mean when a gaming console is backwards compatible?

junglizm

It means that you will be able to play your PS1 and 2 games on the PS3.

I have a strong feeling that Xbox will make 360 games backwards compatible. Xbox games are simply DVDs with a certain encoding for the Xbox to read, not hard to manipulate or induce improvements towards...

I dunno now...after reading around, I'm starting to see that PS3 really is gonna be a solid system. That's a long time to wait, though. Hopefully the 360 wont be pushed back in deadline time; probably wont as long as Bungie doesn't have any say in it...cuz they're notorious for doing that.

Xbox 360 will not be backwards compatible.

thats what i was told, b/c i asked the same question

Regardless of the power, PS3 still has the better games. The only Xbox games I ever felt inclined to play was Halo 1 & 2; that and Fable. Sony has more of the titles I like.

I can almost guarantee that the controler shown will change. I heard some stuff about a guy from sony saying they want to see what Nintendo are doing and then react to it. Microsoft won't have that option as it is launching earlier. I will buy a XBOX 360 then when the PS3 comes out i will probably trade it in.

Anyways, polygons whatever, but the thing has a 3.2 ghz processor and the graphic card is simply bad ass. If you had watched E3 and seen the live play vids, you would be amazed. Now, I agree sony does some fucked up shit, like saying it is real time play when it is not, but for the new games, they swear, and non-sony's swear, it is real time play. The graphics are (provided it is real time play) as good as they are claiming, very realistic with excellent detail.

I absolutely agree that you should never believe anything anyone in the gaming industry says until you see it yourself.

yeh... that's rediculous. i thought it was rediculous when they wanted $300 for a gaming console. but i guess that is the norm... i wont be buying it if it is more than $300. i waited on the PS2 and XBOX untilt he price dropped a little bit.

Yeah, I got an N64 instead of a Saturn because of that :frown:. I couldn't afford a $399 game console...$150 was more reasonable.

Anyway, if Sony does that, it won't take off. Nobody bought the $700 3DO, either. It MIGHT sell in Japan, because the Saturn took off like a rocket and outsold the PS1, but here people don't like plunking down all that cash for another console. And that's a proven fucking fact.

Sony could make a $1000 console with twice the power of this thing and it still may not take off.

it woudlnt. i like console gaming because i like to game with my friends and i like using a controller more than a mouse and keyboard. im not saying that computer gaming is bad, im just saying the reasons i like console gaming. hoewver, i am a big computer gamer, now more than ever, and if these consoles are more than 300 dollars, and even if they are 300 dollars im probably not getting one. my computer was expensive, but i can do other stuff on my computer besides gaming. ill probably wait to get them till they sink atleast below 250, and if they put most of the games on the computer i wont even need to get them.

You're not alone there...I'm thinking the same.

Remember how the NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, and the TurboGrafx-16 cost $199.99 at launch? I don't get why everything has to cost so fucking much. Space age technology? Do I look like I care? I'll buy a new console when I see which platform has the best software. Like I said, I can't be an early adopter anymore, I've fucked myself in the past.

At worst with these new consoles, you may have one that will play a game with less slowdown or with prettier graphics. It will be like Street Fighter II. You'll have the SNES version with the better graphics and sound, and more slowdown, or the Genesis version with no slowdown and a better fighting game controller. I have hard copies of both, and I'm still undecided. Each console will have different strengths. We'll have to see what happens here - I would personally never buy a console on specs alone. And I never have. I bought the N64 because it had Zelda 64 - I'm still not fond of my second hand PS-X at all.

I got it 'cuz I was poor, and I wasn't too fond of the Saturn's library, or the PS-X's. Granted, I was eight at the time...And nowadays I want to secure my own fucking copy of NiGHTS.
