I'll probably buy the PS3.

The specs don't matter as much for consoles, it's more what the system does with them that counts. Honestly though, I wouldn't bet on any of those specs being final just yet either.
Also, comparing those specs to a computer is silly, so I wouldn't go by that either.

You may not think they dont matter as much, but they still matter. As far as the specs being final, I know those exact specs may not be final, but I think the xbox 360 having better specs than the ps3 is.
Also, I just can't stand playing anything on the playstation. I especially hate the controller. Xbox has a better contoured and more responsive controller. I think it will be the same with the next gen systems. I'm also just not a big fan of playstation exclusive games either. I would do just what I did with xbox and gamecube and buy xbox 360 and revolution.

I am very excited for both systems and full intend on getting both at one point or another. Since the 360 will be out before the PS3 (launches 4th quarter 2005), I will probably get that first. Halo 3 comes out when the PS3 launches! Thank Bill Gates for this one, trying to take away from the PS3's initial success when launched. Oh well, they're both going to be sick.
Anyone else have a particular game they are looking forward to? I have to say, Killzone 2 (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/killzone2/media.html?gcst=killzone2_ot_ps3_ 051605.asx) looks amazing. Watch the first video in that link and keep in mind that the entire sequence is IN GAME footage. Just shows how amazing the possibilities are for these new systems.

I read an interview saying that Microsoft is waiting for PS3 to release final specs just so they can make the xbox 360 more powerful. As far as gameplay, I'm with Nintendo. It's all about the gameplay; I just wish Nintendo would focus a little more on make adult oriented games. But, I'll probably get Xbox 360 and the Revolution. Supposedly, they are working together with some aspects. (may be a rumor, who knows). It's all opinion, though. Anyone who buys a system because of specs are just wasting money.

As of now, I can surely say The NRev and most likely the PS3.
HOWEVER...I want to see which will have the software I want. The next console war is shaping up to be a heated one, and I hope it rivals the 16-bit days, when grade school kids would get into fights over which system is better...That happened a few times when I was a kid. I just said "I don't own an SNES, I don't which is better." I didn't try one until -1999. When shit like that happens, you usually see an awesome influx of software/peripherals. I mean, shit, the Genesis has the second largest US game library ever next to the NES, and the SNES has an equally good 3rd largest library. (NES: 1200 titles, SG: 700 Titles, SNES: 500 Titles).
As of now, it's still up in the air, and I'm not an early adopter with consoles anymore...Mr. Dreamcast and Mrs. Cube don't have much stuff for them coming out :frown:.
Personally, I think seeing Unreal 3 running on a PS3 makes it compelling, but the Xbox has a faster GPU.
BUT...Sony's console durability is pretty fucking poor, and sending it in for repairs after a "90-Day Warranty" (LOL!) is a pain in the ass. I mean, my PlayStation 1 (Orignal Atari XE looking one) is a fucking joke. I have to push down on the disc securing mechanism when removing it, because it will come off on the fucking CD. And if you lose that, it's all over.
Every Nintendo/Sega/M$ console I've owned or used are built like fucking tanks, and they've never given me sass except for a bizzarre Genesis mobo glitch where my up button would stop working, and Sonic 3 special stages would speed up at the wrong intervals, or not speed up at all. They fixed it in two weeks, so I can't bitch. It ain't Sega's fault, I think the chipset was bad. That's excluding the NES, but a philips head and alchohol will fix it.
I'm also not buying anything until the Nintendo Revolution's specs are revealed, because I end up buying my "wanted" system and a Nintendo system (My only Nex-Gen consoles are a Dreamcast and a GameCube). Why? Zelda. The WindWaker sucked, it was too arcade like, and it gave you no motivation to play on besides a trippy scene of Hyrule underwater. But every game desinger fucks up along the way once and a while, so I'm not concerned.

Yea, sony has had some problems with there consoles. i went throgh almost 4 ps1 because they were so shitty. I decided just to give up until ps2 came out. Then when it did, i bought one and used it for a week, and that one ended breaking because of the stupid Disc reader. i am on my second ps2, and it has been doing fine.
Now xbox has its differences. What i really like about xbox is that you have a hard drive to store all of your memory onto. The bad thing is that i dont like how bulky it is. I have a hard time fitting it into places were i want it so it out of the way. Xbox also has certain games that ps2 an gamecube dont have. For example halo, and halo2.
Gamecube is my personal favorite. I like it cause it is small and portable. It also has a lot of the starwar games on it that ps2 and xbox dont have. Also resident evil 4 is also a game only for the gamecube. The only bad thing is the controler. It is very uncomfortable and has no grip(besides wireless ones).

Wow, you're the first person I've heard of to not like the Gamecube controller.
I think it's the best controller ever. Shaped perfectly for the hand and all the buttons are in easy reach. Xbox's come second. The Playstation's is just to small for me and i hate the double L and R buttons.

I think the gamecube controller needs more grip. I get pretty agressive playing my games, that means i get all sweaty. And that means the controller slips out of my hands. I would have to agree with you about the ps2, way to small. I also think the r1 r2 r3 thing is way to confusing. In my opinion, no game should have that many controlls.

Ok, Here (http://www.gamespot.com/cgi/chkpt.php?s=6124986&c=movie_ftp_928377&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcomplete.gamespot. com.edgesuite.net%2Faction%2Fkill zone2%2Fkillzone2_ot_ps3_051605_q t.zip) is why I'm so excited about the next-gen consoles. Regardless of which one you are rooting for, the technology that they are putting into these machines are going to open up a whole new level of possibilities. The video above is for the Game Killzone 2 (working title), I dont really know what the game is about but this entire cinematic sequence is using IN-GAME footage. This looks and feels better than just about any cinematic sequence. See it for your self (http://www.gamespot.com/cgi/chkpt.php?s=6124986&c=movie_ftp_928377&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcomplete.gamespot. com.edgesuite.net%2Faction%2Fkill zone2%2Fkillzone2_ot_ps3_051605_q t.zip)

Agree With You
"The specs ultimately don't matter for consoles." The games and the number of quality developers who frequently put out games is the key factor for a successful console. Comparing specifics of a console is like comparing number of hairs on different bald men's heads; it's usually about the same value.
Disagree With You
"PS3 is the better system to get (even if you didnt say it, you implied it by saying you'll get one)." Xbox 360 will incorporate MANY more features such as webmail, team tools, tournament information, community updates, and several "away from console" features. I haven't heard much about PS3, but I don't think it has nearly as many cool add-on's as the Xbox 360.

You may not think they dont matter as much, but they still matter.
I don't "think" they matter less, I know they do.
The specs aren't so much a factor in consoles because they have no real world equivalent. Meaning that the Xbox's "triple core 3.2GHz processors" doesn't mean much when compared to the PS3's set up. It's foolish to compare the two, which have chosen different architectures... Just like it would be foolish to compare the Xbox's processor to a 3.2GHz computer processor. All that processing speed doesn't mean much if they have poor memory management, or just poor OS/software. Consoles aren't as tried and true as computers, and there's not much consistency.
As far as the specs being final, I know those exact specs may not be final, but I think the xbox 360 having better specs than the ps3 is.
That may be true, but you're still relying on the flawed idea that specs are everything.

Bingo. Saved me a post there.
If developers always choose the most powerful system, then why did the PlayStation 1 have more titles than the N64, or the Genesis have more titles than the SNES? What about the PS2 and the Xbox/Gamecube?
Specs don't mean shit - software quality does.

THANK YOU! It was designed for little Asian hands. The N64 and Dreamcast are the only controllers that fit my massive White hands...The Dreamcast is my favorite, because I swear it was engineered only for me. I can't even feel myself holding it! The N64 is the perfect size but I can still feel it resting in me.

I know that the specs don't mean everything. And I never compared console specs to a computer's. I guess what I'm really trying to say that if someone was going to choose between two, the specs can sometimes tip the scale. As for me, i'm choosing the 360 over PS3 for the simple reason that I liked the Xbox and hate the playstation and always will. And what really did it for me was that no memory card is required for the Xbox (which is great for sports games) and I do notice that its faster with loading games than the Playstation is.
