I Wore a Red Dress.
I wore a red dress to my funeral,
strapless and low into my bosom.
I step lightly through the moony grass,
and lay a pale kiss on an angels breast.
I tied a white ribbon to my hair,
wound it through my plaited braid.
I wait for the sun to warm my skin,
but only cold and rain answer me.
I don't know why you will not answer,
my own tears fall slowly like living ice.
I wipe the sting from my painted eyes,
and bow my head to the wet earth.
I wonder if you like this dress now,
once you said I was your princess.
I clutch the earth above your head,
and wish I knew if you thought of me still.
