music is music .. some in every genre is good and some in each is bad but every kind of music is based on another, older genre so you can't hate one without hating something else and then eventually hating the basis of whatever genre you like.
in other words: rock is better

word to that. i gotta give you props for letting your very contrarian opinion be known.
i agree with you about rap being good, but i will say there's a LOT of rock out there that's also about real life, and there's plenty of rap that's just pointless too.
but there is some marvelous rap as well as the abundance of great rock that's out there.
god, i feel like melvin smiley. "we can all agree there are plenty of excellent black quarterbacks."

And don't even think of trying to give me a rebuttle or Ill be forced to hammer you :bonk: , with countless examples of how wrong you are.

wait wait.. maybe he's just categorizing rap above rock-love-songs.
"rock which is love songs" could be a sloppy way of saying "the love songs of the rock genre."
we all know how much rock out there is NOT love songs.

you're wrong. while metal is a style of rock. it is still considered rock music. just like gangsta rap would be a style of rap. don't argue with me, i'm a musician and know an awful lot about music. the poll was rock vs. rap. if you don't like it don't vote.

Listen to the man. I mean, Jazz is a form of rock, because it was the start of the major rock music, that's why I didn't get detailed because I could put a million choices in there I did get detailed. So even if you like jazz music, you like rock. Simple as that.
morelos
07-02-2004, 09:36 PM
but jazz is very black music. jazz evolved from band music into a particularly african-american form. and then it evolved into bob, hip-hop, r&b and eventually rap.
so, maybe it's safe to say rock and rap are different sides of the same coin.

i don't know that i woulg go so far as to say jazz is a form of rock music. firts of all jazz came first, so you would really have to phrase it the other way around. also, alot of the chords found in jazz music, you would be hard pressed to find them in modern rock music. also modes used, etc.....jazz even has it's own way of categorizing music when talking about music theory. but, yes all music has evolved form previous music, but thats obvious.

So am I. Yes metal is a subset of rock. I played im Metal bands all my life. I was playing covers of iron maiden when they came out with "Number of the Beast" in the US.

there should be an "oldies" section. some of these songs i'm listening to right now (I have about 13 hrs of oldies on the file server, which is a fair amount for just that one genre) are so meaningful.
and it's disturbing: all the war songs and protest songs and shit from the 1960s are suddenly valid again.

I went with rock, because most of the rap out there is shit squared.
It's not even entertaining to hear some uneducated "gangsta" screaming about fucking things or on the other hand shooting people.
It's the kind of shit kids like because it doesn't require any thought or feeling.

True, 70's rock is awesome. However, some of the yelling in todays music is simply artistic expression, a new form or style of singing if you will. Times change and so does music. 70's were classic, but out with the old. time to move on.

Yes, but we mustn't forget the founding fathers, or we will all forget what that shit is all about. The screaming of today is not all bad,(can get outta hand at times), but for the most part, i respect it, as long as the founders are always noticed and not fucked, or forgotten.

Out with the old?! What about The Doors, every couple years someone rediscovers The Doors and people start listening to them again. No one will ever forget The Doors or Jim Morrison. Speaking of remembering Jim Morrison he thought people would forgot about him 5 years after his death. He was off by a few years a ton of people came to his grave at the 30th anniversary of his death.
