bwahahaha... so many n00bs, so little time. I've worked as a computer tech for about 3 years now and I've never seen windows crashing cause a bios to fail, but I wouldn't rule it out. It's definitely a possibility, computers are very interesting machines and Windows is a very interesting OS (Operating System for the n00bs), but it's unlikely. There is a greater possibility it was a power fluctuation or surge. And as for downloading viruses, they can be included in ANY type of file you are downloading, not just movies. But that is a risk you take when downloading kiddie porn from Russia or cracked software.. GO KAZAA!!!!!!!

Well...there IS a way of going back if you kill the BIOS...
Pop out the chip and send it in to your PC/motherboard manufacturer. You could also always give the chip to a friend who has an AOpen/Gigabyte motherboard with a dual BIOS chip setup, and have him flash your chip with a new BIOS.
It rarely happens, though. It's never happened to me. I have flashed BIOSes twenty times or so with no problems...My current motherboard has been flashed six, I think.
Ya know, he might have picked up the CIH virus over the internet...that permamently erases your BIOS via Win$hit.
If you are getting a CMOS Checksum error, clear your CMOS. There is usually a jumper you have to short or you have to take the battery out. Consult your manual.
Buy a UPS (Uninterruptable power supply). You can pick one up off Newegg.com for around $30. It protects against power surges and spikes, so when the power goes out, you won't lose your work. Many of them can also be set up so that when the power goes out, they will turn off your PC and save all your work after a certain number of minutes.
LASTLY, DO NOT SURF THE WEB WITH INTERNET EXPLORER. DOWNLOAD MOZILLA FROM www.mozilla.org. IT WILL BE THE BEST MOVE YOU WILL EVER MAKE.
Who makes this computer, may I ask?

Dude, CHI is going back to like 1998, and Linux, Macintosh, Windows 2000, and Windows XP are not affected. Maybe DOS and definitely win 95/98/ME.
But still, that's a long shot. IF it is the bios @ all, it's more likely firmware corruption due to dirty/spiky power.
He said he moved the machine shortly before the problem occurred. Is it possible the rig took a bump or got dropped and hosed the hard drive? The platters don’t take too kindly to the head slapping up against them due to impact. Who knows, it was a kind of vague description. Try reseating the memory?

If that still doesn't work, rebuild the thing. Take it apart and put it back together. It's actually quite easy, it somewhat explains itself.
Do a Google for a step-by-step tutorial.

I have herd of your motherboard crashing but not the windows...lol. Thats why you don't download movies, its illegal anyway. Don't know some people plant viruses like that just to be fucked up and enjoy making other peoples computers crashing.

it's completely impossible for an os to corrupt bios. if your computer won't post try pulling the reset jumper(usually JP1). flashing the bios isn't very hard, just read the instruction well before you start and make sure you have the right flasher prog & bins.

adsense is google's ad banner program. the spider is crawling the pages to get information for the "relevant ads".

why are you wasting your time and money on comptia certs? they're worthless unless you're trying to get an entry level job. i got A+, net+ and linux+ about 4 yrs ago and don't even list them on my resume. i'm MCSE/MCSA, CCNP, CISSP and LPI. i'm currently working on my CCIE.(my job is pushing all of us to certify on it  ) but it's a good thing i guess. i just quit putting faith in certifications a while ago. a lot of certified people are still fucking cleuless, i've had MCSEs that couldn't work AD or GPs to save their lives.
