Boy, I can tell ya - They're not a good thing! not a good thing at all!
I have a computer addiction. My brother is so fucked up - He does not have any higher grades then 2.0 in his report card.
I just wish I could keep a small portion of my addiction and throw the rest out the window...
It's the only thing that keeps me from getting better grades. (My avg last year was like 3.2...)
And bad grades mean less money. Lower grades - badder (from the word "bad", not "badass"!) future.
And I don't understand all these 13-14-15-16-17 year olders that use the term "computer nerd". Most of 'em just play Xbox/PS2/Gamecube 24/7. Why can't I call 'em game console nerds? They fuckin' watching TV all fucking day!
What's so bad about being a 3D designer?! or a programmer? hell, these loser can skate and show their punk asses all they wan't, but I'm the one who's gonna be making FUCKING SEVENTY (OR MORE!!!) I use Adobe Photoshop for picture editing...... I take my DV cam out and shoot video of all kinds of shit, and my kid< Then I use Final Cut Pro to edit the video (cut shit out, enhance, add music, all that junk) for DVD burning! And lastly, I'm here with U fuckers online........

I'm with you guys. All through high school I always knew this shit would pay off and my senior year I nailed a job as an IT staff at a tech school I was currently attending. I made more money than the stupid jocks that didn't even have a job who's parents always gave them money where as my parents never gave me shit. I've been a long time gammer ever since Nintendo. Now days I'm 19, first year in college (local college cuz my parents don't give me shit remember??? Thanks mom and dad) which I hope to leave after I get an Associates Degree in CS (Computer Science) and go off somewhere far the fuck away from Oklahoma. (Oklahoma == shit)

I like computer games. Hell I find myself modding them more than playing them. Making games is probably what I will end up doing or I will die trying. All I know is that this shit had better pay off. It just has too. I can't see my friends who would rather hang out with their girl friends, or hang out with "cooler" people, or some bull shit, than to LAN with me and make Quake mods. The fuckers stand me up at LAN parties all the time. They say they want to pursue a career in game dev but they don't wana take the time to learn how it actually works. All I know is they are fucked.

Did anyone go to Quakecon? or do you attend simular events such as game/hardware workshops, or game release parties? (I went to the Doom3 release in Dallas, so awsome. Got to meet half the idsoftware team.)

Well for game dev the Dallas/FW area seems to be the place. So many game companies such as id software, gearbox, a buch of other little companies, as well as the popular hardware review site [H]ard|OCP, and the Guilders Hall (a game dev school taught by people in the buisness mostly from id) is there as well.

Though I would drop it all for an opportunity to live/work in the northwest. To damn hot down here.

BTW I am pursuintg my career in the programming side of development. I know the Q3A source code by heart and am currently awaiting the Doom3 code to be released or even better HL2. :D

I use a pc and have never crashed with logic 5.5
I have a keyed version and paid dearly for it and actually logic has done wonders for their pc versions. Groovebox is one of my favorate beat machines. I produced my first beats on the 303 and 505. My god i love the sound of the 909 but I currently have a fantom and my fantom does me well. Software sequencing has never been part of my everyday program but I have yet to see one better than logic. It's all about hardware. My next expendature may be a 909 as well. I have produced many artists - anywhere from rap to latino bands and of course my own stuff. how about you? i assume jungle?
