on their front page (http://www.mozilla.org/) now!
We have a set of builds that we hope will become Firefox 1.0 Preview Release (also known as Firefox 0.10). You can get the Windows build here, the Mac build here, and the Linux build here. Please help us test these builds and let us know if you find any recent regressions that should prevent this from becoming the 1.0 PR release build. If all goes well in testing, we should have ourselves a release early next week.
Live Bookmarks
You can now subscribe to and read RSS feeds in your Bookmarks. When you visit a page that advertises a RSS feed by using a link-tag, a RSS icon will appear in the status bar. Click it to view a list of feeds the page is offering. Click one to subscribe - this adds a Bookmark Folder that contains all the recent posts from the feed.
Improved Find
Find is easier and more powerful now with our new Find toolbar. The Find toolbar (which shows at the bottom of the browser window) automatically highlights text in the page as you type and has a useful highlight feature.
Managing Annoyances and Protecting Security
You can now open blocked popups, and the Extension install system now blocks all attempts to install software from sites other than update.mozilla.org. Users can add other sites to a list that allows them to offer software, but software is never automatically installed. In addition to these steps, several other measures have been taken to prevent phishing attacks and to highlight when a page is being viewed over a secure connection.
Better Bookmarks
Numerous improvements to bookmarks including more reliable presentation of Site icons, and a split pane view in the Bookmarks window.
Strong Encryption For Passwords Available
Passwords saved with the Password Manager can now be more easily encrypted with strong encryption by creating a "Master Password". If you create a Master Password, you are prompted once per session to enter the Master Password so that Password Manager can automatically fill in site logins. A useful feature for people who share computers with others and want improved security.
Improved Compatibility for IE users
Undetectable document.all support for site compatibility and improved compatibility for keyboard accelerators further smooth the transition for IE users.

i like it so far, just no themes for it yet :frown: but all of my extensions work
I'll probably get this one soon, when I have a little time to tweak it and appreciate how cool it is.

Fucks yeah!
Sweet. Downloading as we speak (or as I type).

I've downloaded it. It's pretty cool, although I must say I liked the old one better (in terms of looks).
But that's where themes come in. I wonder how I could create my own theme...

Update:
Alright, I've been using it for a few days... I've got my All-In-One mouse-gestures, GMail Notifier, and foxytunes... this is the freakin' life.

i use all of those, as well as; all in on tab, miniT, BBcode, and close tab on double click.

I customised all-in-one mouse gestures to close tabs and the like...
I also use the Qute theme, and I'm just figuring out "Nuke Anything" right now... it's pretty simple, but fun to play with.

FireFox is out now, I'm using it right now, pretty cool
My browser at home is kept pretty minimal with the extensions... Adblock, All-in-One Gestures, Tabbrowser Extensions, Download Manager Tweak, and IEView.
At work I use a lot more plugins like dom inspector, web developer, etc...
Firefox keeps impressing me the more I use it. The latest feature I'm groking is the search-engine plugins. The commonly used ones are Goggle/Dictionary/Ebay/IMDB/CDDB. Now I can type in what I'm searching for in the little box next to the address bar and find it instantly.
Its really easy to add new ones to the list. Just click on the current search bar icon, I believe the default is "G"oogle, and select "Add engines". There's hundreds of engines to choose from.

I'm loving the UrbanDictionary one... And the extension "Dict", aside from sounding like a very nasty verb, is great. You highlight a word, right-click on it, and you can find a definition for it (great when you're as stupid as me).

The best thing about FireFox is that it keeps getting better. With its open-source technology, the possibilities are literally ENDLESS.

One of the best features of Firefox is that is does'nt use those pesky Active X controls like IE .... this gives you automatic immunity from lots of spyware, at least untill they re-write the code assuming they can find a weakness in mozilla :bomb:

That's the main reason I switched, plain and simple.

I love fire fox, I just got the new version today.
It blocks all adds and pop ups, so im spam free.
It saved all my book marks.
But the thing I dont like about it is, it doesnt have all the plug ins.
For example if you go to a site on Internet Explorer that has special java script codes, it wont work on fire fox. And mozilla cant link to servers, Because I couldnt get the paste information when I clicked a packet on packetnews for the ctpp xdcc send.
Other then that everything else is fine.
:blah:

You lost me. What does "definition" mean?
Damn! I wish I had a dictionary!!
Well, anyway.........
Anyone try Thunderbird email client. I tried it for a while.
Firefox is a great browser, but there's a lot of improvement needed in Thunderbird email client efficiency. I love TB's rss reader, but for everyday office use, it'll never work in it's current state.
Side-by-side, there's no comparison with Outlook 2000/XP/2003. Workgroup/collaboration functions aren't there. And it's really slow. I mean Sloooooww.
With outlook's PST file. You open your client and all your email is right there. On TB I notice I get the hour glass for several seconds, then eventually it shows the inbox.

I recently downloaded firefox and thunderbird and personally i think they both beat the MS equivalents. Thunderbird does need somework, but i think outlook is crap, and it beats it hands down. Thats only from a normal user point of view, i dont use newsgroups etc i only use it to check the email from my site, i dont find it slow at all. Ive got version 1.0 of firefox and i love the security included, however it does have some issues. It is not compatible with the gamespot dlx plugin, so i have to switch back to ie for that, and for some reason yesterday it stopped loading up the main pic on my homepage, it works in ie but not in firefox. It worked before then, it just says the picture isn't there, when it blatantly is because all the people i asked to test my site said it worked and loaded up fine. Could someone test it for my in firefox please, as i dont think any of the friends i asked use firefox, the url is www.bennalinc.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should try the IE View extension (http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=35&vid=928). Extensions are one of the reasons firfox is such a great browser.

Bump for security.
https://update.mozilla.org/critical/firefox/2004-10-01.html
2004-10-01 Important Security Update for Firefox
This patch fixes a flaw in Firefox downloading which could lead to lost data.
Installing the Security Update:
To install the fix, click here http://www.mozilla.org/images/update.png (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/patches/259708.xpi) and in the resulting dialog, click the "Install Now" button. After the download and install has completed, restart the browser.
note: Linux users may need root to install this update.
To confirm that the update was successful, (after restarting the browser) go to Help -> About Mozilla Firefox and verify in the resulting dialog that Firefox is identified as Firefox/0.10.1
For users of versions prior to Firefox Preview Release (0.8 and 0.9.x,) visit the Firefox homepage (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/index.html) to download the latest version of the Firefox Preview Release (Firefox 0.10.1)
For more information, see the October 1, 2004 Press Release (http://www.mozilla.org/press/mozilla-2004-10-01-02.html).

Got a Firefox question (and also wondering where that computer help forum got off to)...
Alright, so yesterday Firefox was being weird. It wouldn't stop fucking up.
So, I closed the window and re-opened. It gave me an error about a "user profile" already being in use, so I did what it told me to do and created a user profile.
Now, all of my extensions, themes, plugins, etc. are gone. I can't find a way to switch back. I searched Mozdev.org and didn't find anything, and it's really pissing me off.
I want to know how to change user profiles. Any help?

first find where in the program files you main profile is. save to desktop. remove firefox from computer....reload back on.....load you favorite profile. if that doesn't work. then reload the extensions and themes

I’ve had the same problem when firefox crashed, make sure the process is terminated, before restarting firefox and you won’t have the profile problem. That happened because your original profile was still in use when you tried starting a new instance of it. You can kill the process manually via the task manager (firefox.exe). I used the following link to fix my gf’s profile problems, she did the same thing as you. Also typing about:config in the address bar give you a lot of configuration options. The default profile folder is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile you may be able to delete the other profile. Make sure you back the entire folder up first though.

Contrary to your opinion; reinstalling things isn't the first step to fixing computer problems, nor is it a very intelligent approach. If you can't offer any good advice, please don't offer any at all. I'm fairly certain he could've figured out to uninstall and reinstall it himself, I'm also pretty certain he was trying to avoid having to do so.

Thanks junglizm, although the answer to my problem was simple.
I just re-created the situation, and did it again, except instead of creating a new profile, I switched to the old one.
That was before I read this, though. In the future I won't take the "brutish force" method.
