WTF, there's gotta be a few swingin' dicks here that follow the NFL.
Whose your team? What do you think about Clarett entering the draft?
How do you think Gibbs will do this year with the Redskins? And will the Chargers drop their dicks in the dirt, again, with the #1 pick?

Oh, just so there's no confusion, How 'bout them Cowboy's !!!!!!!

Yea, from what I was reading, the ruling was announced this morning. Should be interesting to see what happens. Clarrett's attorney has already vowed to take it further. Should this ruling be overturned after the draft, the NFL will have to hold a supplemental draft for the underclassmen - potentially screwing them outta all sorts of money. I love it

But I guess the panel of judges have given Clarett's attorney time to scramble

It looks like the court issued a stay of the original order. They haven't actually ruled. The ruling will probably come after the draft. End result is the same. Clarrett won't be called this weekend. It'd be interesting to see how the league works a supplemental draft - would they just use the same pick order as the original draft? Chargers could walk away with Eli Manning, and Mike Williams. Not gonna happen, but they can drool and hypothesize, right?

Yea, I just read that, too. He was a true stud. 5'11 and a badass linebacker. Gave up $9mil to go to (at the time Superbowl champs) St Louis - why? Because (get this) he (a professional athlete) felt a responsibility to the team that drafted him and gave him a chance!! He then turned down a 3 year contract at 3.6something mil to enlist in the Army. Mind you - he has a college degree, so he should have gone in as an E-4 - making around 28,000/yr. $3.6mil to make 28K and put his fucking life on the line. Not just take a beating on a Sunday afternoon, but lay down his life. He's a fucking hero.

I guess it comes down to being a leader and not a follower. Are you a part of something larger than yourself? Do you actually classify being a corporate slave as belonging to something larger? One last question, why would I want to be a part of something larger; shouldn't one focus on themselves in order to be all that they can be? I'm fairly content to have myself be the center of my universe.

Apparently you're not only a jackass, but you also can't read. What part of don't try to understand it did you not understand? Have you ever seen what Army Rangers do? Their motto of Rangers Lead The Way, is not just an empty, meaningless phrase to them. It is a fact; a way of life. You may call Tillman a follower, and believe he is pathetic for leaving behind millions of dollars, and his family. His family, even his grieving wife, know that he is a hero; a leader. They know that though he may have entered the battlefield behind other people, that he charged into it the way he did everything else in his life - full steam, no holds barred.

You're right to a point. He was a soldier, but not just as any other soldier. He was a soldier that denounced extreme financial security to be a low paid soldier. He did so modestly - he held no press conference to glorify his service. He did not boast about it. He just did it. His death is being talked about because he was famous before he enlisted. He made a lot of people think that there still are people in this country that believe in things like honor, loyalty and duty.

What about his wife? What can he do for her and his family now that he is dead? Yes, they may think he was a hero and all, but what can you do for your family as a dead hero? And he just got married too, before he left...

Also, he may have had ulterior motives for going to the Rangers. He would have come back, with a hero's welcome, and probably tried to get back into the NFL. There would be tons of endorsement deals offered to him, and he could easily run for office as well. Now, we may never know if that could have happened, but he may have had other thoughts, more than just purely "serving" his country...

I would give you the point of ulterior motives were it not for the fact that he played it down. Had he had ulterior motives, do you not think he would have held a press conference at the recruiter's office as he signed the contract? Or at the processing station as he rasied his right hand and swore to his initial enlistment oath? Or invite cameras to his basic training - something the DoD wanted to do, but he requested they not. Had he really been a glory hound, he would've stacked the cards high, and made sure people knew he was in Afghanistan. How many sports fans knew before today that Pat Tillman had been deployed overseas? This man was a selfless warrior. Yes, his young bride is now without her husband. This wife pays a huge sacrifice, in being widowed at a young age. His gift to her? The knowledge that he died fighting for something he believed in. The understanding that even though it was painful for her to watch him leave, he put the freedom and safety of every American above that of his own, and boarded a plane.

Low-key is better, maybe he knew he might not have made it back safely and didn't want to seem like an arrogant ass or didn't want to jinx himself. He was a marketing major, I'm sure he thought it all out.

It was all over the news when he announced it, though he never publicly spoke about it, lots of sports fans knew he did it. Talk radio was abuzz regarding his story as well. It was front page news when it happened.

And if you ask any woman that truly loves her husband, they would rather have him there alive rather than be a memory as a soldier that died in a war.

His enlistment into the army was all over the radio - over a year ago. His unit's deployment - or what unit he'd been assigned to, even - was unkown. Pat Tillman was last in the news a few months after he enlisted, and that was when he graduated Basic Training. Nothing since. So, yes, he had been in the news. And No, the average sports fan had no idea Pat was fighting in Afghanistan.

See what you've done? You've made me lie. I don't normally like to go back on my word, but for you I'll make an exception..

Okay, what the fuck do you not understand about the difference between people knowing that he enlisted, and not knowing that he was in a combat zone. If the guy was really after publicity, he would've stayed at Ft. Benning, or been assigned to Ft. Lewis with 2nd Ranger Battalion (which just got back from overseas, and is now sitting in the US for several months before they rotate back). If he was truly doing this for the perception, and impression, he never would've entered a combat zone. The guy could've received very preferential treatment, but he chose not to. Do you think the whitehouse wants to announce the death of a professional athlete? Sure, they can spin it in the hero way (which is the truth) but politically, his death hurts the Bush administration.

Every soldier that has stepped onto the field of battle has potentially put their family in a position where they may have to lose that soldier. That's part of being a soldier. You know what you're getting yourself into. It's an all volunteer force. I really love how people bitch about the soldiers, yet - how long did you serve? When did you salute the flag? When have you had to trust someone else with your life, and let them entrust theirs to you?

Fact is, because real men are willing to do his job - you have the luxury to sit at your desk and second guess his motives and decisions. Fuck you.

Fuck you.

Amen. I didn't serve, but my Grandfathers and my Father all served in war times; all non-draftees. I don't care if you are giving up a job manning a shovel for peeling potatoes for your countrymen. You da man! In my book.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying people that don't serve are pussies. Merely saying dumbass should think about what he's bitching about. Cuz more than likely, if he lived in another country - he would probably be arrested for talking shit about the military or government.

Who has given us freedom of speech.

IT IS THE SOLDIER, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us freedom to demonstrate.

IT IS THE SOLDIER, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

IT IS THE SOLDIER who salutes the flag,
Who serves under the flag and
Whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

You have real morals, Mr. Liar! You must be a true representation of the American man. I'm glad to live in the same country as you. Yeah, I'm sure if you lived in Canada, England, Spain, or France, they'd kill you for speaking your mind... Uh huh. SURE... What have you done for this country? Ruined the all natural trails by mountain biking? Oooh, gee thanks!

If you can't understand that it was known that he enlisted, and that he was sent to Iraq, and that it was known he was still in the Rangers and in duty, that's your fucking problem. So he died. Boo hoo. So did HUNDREDS OF OTHERS. Yeah, so go make him more important than hundreds of other fallen soldiers. I'm sure the other dead soldier's families are thrilled to have Tillman's death overshadow their family member's deaths.

Maybe he was a Democrat and hated Bush. WE WILL NEVER KNOW! But I can't wait for his wife's hero books or the biographies on him!

Oh you're finished? Well, allow me to retort.

The erosion caused by my mountain biking (or that of other riders) is no more than that caused by equestrian riders - which in the northwest, generally share the same trails.

You ask what have I done for my country? Now, I'm curious how I should respond - are you actually looking for a list? Are we going to get into a "I'm more American than you" debate? I presume you're being rhetorical, but you've taken most everything else literally, so I feel I should give you the opportunity to clarify.

Pat Tillman is no better than any other soldier. I've said that since you brought it up in your first post on the subject. He was famous before enlisting, therefore, it's newsworthy when he dies in combat (in Afghanistan, not Iraq - I guess you were absent when they handed out that public knowledge you were speaking of).

The point I've been attempting to make to you is that he was not some glory whore. Had he been, don't you think pictures like this (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040423/483/wxs60004232137) would have been released to the media prior to his death? Don't you think Pat Tillman's name would've been around? The guy joined the Army because he felt a calling. He felt that his country had been wronged on September 11, 2001, and by God he was going to do whatever he could to help make sure justice was had. He gave his life for that.

You mention his wife penning a book to profit on his life/death - though extremely premature (c'mon, ass, he's not even burried, yet), but what's wrong with that? I'm sure it's actually a hell of a story.

And as for me and my personal attack on you - well, FUCK YOU. Yep. I said it again. Take a good look at where you are? You're in the muthafuckin baithouse. I don't have to play by your little rules. I have no respect for you - any chance you had at earning my respect went out the window when you started typing. I give less than half a shit what you think of me. But treading on the memory of a dead patriot is not something I'll watch. So, keep 'em coming. I won't back down until this thread is closed.

Sorry, GH - we may need to start a "No, really, this is the football thread" thread (http://forums.wtf.com/showthread.php?p=7092#post7092)

I might be a little biased, but I think I've already done so. Perhaps you're too busy trying to think of what to say next, and not actually reading what I'm saying.

Hey, I can retort and say people that watch football are stupider than NASCAR fans, but that has no relevance to anything you said.

Right on, my Cowboy's went into the draft with only 5 picks and emerged with 9, 1 of those is Buffalo's #1 pick in 2005, not bad. We got 1 RB, 2 OL, 3 CB's, 1 TE, 1WR and 1 FB in a trade with Tampa. I was hoping Big D would trade down and they did, only bummer was that Denver (the bahstuds) snagged the RB I was hoping for, Tatum Bell, instead we got Julius Jones from Notre Dame.Overall, I'd say Dallas deserves a B+ for this draft.

Doesn't change the fact that you're a complete dipshit. Even God made mistakes. Case in point - your parents.

As for retards and marriage - I guess I'm wrong. I had you painted as a PC piece of shit. But with comments like that, I would have to believe that you definitely aren't. I mean, how many how many people refer to developmentally delayed people as 'retards' these days? And they shouldn't be allowed to marry? Nice. Yea, hopefully the receivers will catch the fucking ball this year. Boulware's supposed to be a badass. I'm most excited about Tubbs, tho. Some scouts discounted him, as he's only been playing football since his junior year in high school. Tim Duncan didn't touch a basketball till his sophomore or junior year in high school. Tubbs is athletic. He went to college to play basketball. Kid's like 6-5 310 and can run like a motherfucker. His athletic ability is amazing.

Yea, I was hoping Jackson would go elsewhere - hard to cheer him on while he plays in the same division. It will be nice watching the 49ers suck again.

Ahh Mexico, Americans toilet. Here I sit butt cheeks a flexin, giving birth to another Mexican. Soccer, baseball and yes Wrestling are the only sports in Mexico, your country excels at non of them. Bull fighting doesn't count, not that soccer and wrestling do either. Face it if it wasn't for drugs Mexico wouldn't have an income. By far Mexico is the biggest joke on this planet, you can't even blame your depression on anything but ignorance. I love countries that piggy-back then talk shit. You are a serious drain on the world, please for god's sake pull your head out of your asses down there, grow some balls and start running a country.

Alrighty then, back to football.

Who's going to be the biggest bust from the '04 draft?

I say Ben Roethlisberger. He's a bit too arrogant. I watched him on draft day and his whole attitude from dropping out of the top 10 was apparent. He's got a tough road to hoe in the NFL, especially with Pitts line and the expectations of the fans wanting an instant winner.Good luck Ben, you're going to need it.

Yea, Dallas and Philly will be puttin' a hurtin' on him his rookie campaign, that's for sure. Archie should've stayed the fuck out of the negotiations, he did more harm than good. The NY fans though, are whores, as long as Eli produces, their memories are short. He should fare well under Coughlin, in a few years, but '04 will be one he wished he had back.

Seattle should be interesting to watch this year. I just found this nugget of info:

SEATTLE EXODUS COMING?

With deposed BailRazers G.M. Bob Whitsitt flexing his muscles in the Seahawks front office, word out of the Pacific Northwest is that a few familiar front office faces could be hitting the road.

We're hearing that V.P. of Football Operations Ted Thompson could be leaving soon, for Dallas.

Also, Director of College Scouting Scot McCloughan could be heading to Tampa with his brother Dave, a Raiders scout who could be reunited with former Raiders exec Bruce Allen.

Previously, capologist Mike Reinfeldt got run out the door after Whitsitt supposedly tried to make him a lowball contract offer.

This story has its roots in a report we ran more than a year ago, which predicted that Whitsitt would fly the coop in Portland and focus taking charge of the Seahawks, in order to maintain some degree of influence in Microsoft gazillionaire Paul Allen's sports empire.

At this rate, however, we can't imagine Whitsitt keeping his Seahawks' gig for long. Perhaps Bob's next stop will be the PBA, an Allen charity case that could always use an extra pin-setter.

January 10, 1982, a date that will live in infamy, with me, for the rest of my life.

Starting late in 1981, I began stockpiling for what was to be one of my all time greatest Super Bowl parties. Being quite the host, I always supply the booze and great eats, after all, it's a party, and being the host of a Super Bowl party, means being responsible in regard to providing the best experience possible for the party goers. (ok, so they're a bunch of my rowdy inconsiderate rough neck I'll-stab-ya-in-the-eye-if-you-think-about-snaggin-the-last-of-the-cocktail-peanuts, and the women who could give a fuck about the game) It's the playoffs and me and a couple buds are enjoying the game, The NFC Championship game, Dallas @ San Fransisco, the 49ers don't stand a chance against my beloved Cowboys, we're rollin' baby, Super Bowl or bust.

Vodka tonic in hand, my homemade "hotmix" (peanuts, shelled sunflower seeds, roasted pumpkin seeds, seasame cheese sticks, and the secret spices that light up your ass) and 5 minutes left in the game. WooHoo bitch, my 'Boys have it clinched, we're Super Bowl bound....

...and then, "The Catch". I almost puked, shit and cried at the same time.
My 'Boys had 'em covered, ferocious pass rush, Montana heading for the sidelines, Everson Walls dropping back into coverage, when out of his ass, Montana heaves up a prayer, Everson let's Dwight Clark go, and that 6' 4" bastard jumps up and hauls in the game winner. I sat there completely fucking speechless, lump in my throat, almost stoic like. Candlestick Park goes wild and my friends are looking at me, waiting for me to get up and throw my fucking T.V. out the window, or at the very least, throw my Vodka through the screen.

Shit, I looked at them, smirked, laughed and shrugged it off as childs play, after all, these were my Cowboys, and they had 4 and a half minutes to play, an eternity in football speak, "not to worry gentlemen" I said so non chalantly, you're about to witness yet another comeback by the greatest sports franchise, ever...

Well, we all know how it turned out, the 49ers went on to etch out a dynasty, and my beloved Cowboys went on to have a mediocre 80's.
I have completely despised the 49ers, their organization, their players, their uniforms and even the city itself, since that fateful day in January '82.
So when I saw them purge their team, again, in this offseason, I could only smile and know, that payback is a bitch, and their place as an elite team has long since passed into a memory. They're the bottom of the shitheap, with the Arizona Cardinals looking to have a more promising season, than the hated 49ers, the icing on the cake though, was the article I just read at ESPN. Mind you, I don't wish ill will on him (Tim Rattay), but the fact that the 49ers just lost their starting QB to a torn groin muscle (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1797942) , just makes me think back to that gloomy day in '82.....

Ahhh, the NFL. You GottaLoveIt.

LOL....I truly stumbled onto my recipe. I had some leftover pumpkin seeds from Halloween that year, half a jar of sunflowr seeds and a few cocktail peanuts. I was dating a Thai girl at the time, and she brought over these Oriental seasame snacks. Through it all in a bowl, mixed it like Chex Mix, only with cayenne, garlic and paprika, and voilá, the birth of my mix. It's changed slighty over the years, but it's the best snack period, goes great with cold beer, or my fav, Vodka.

Another worthless piece of paper given to a worthless piece of shit for a human being, to hype the NFL's literacy program, what a fuckin' joke. Just like Dexter Manley, he graduated from college with a Business Management degree, and he was illiterate. The worst part, is the media makes this guy out to be some sort of football God, NOT.
