View Full Version : How will the universe/earth end?

Well there are many theories on how it will be distroyed or ended. Some involves wars, the stars dying out, the universe gets compressed and other religious/scientific theories. The theories that are most popular are:

Theory one:

All the stars will eventually run out of gases and fuel and will burn out leaving the universe dark and really cold.

Theory two:

The force of gravity will pull the galaxies back together and the universe is crushed in to an enormous black hole. Which is basicly the opposite of the big bang theory.

Theory three:

The world will break out with a nuclear war in the future because obviously a country(s) disagrees with another country(s) and the only way to fix it is to bomb their asses. Everyone will die....

Theory four:

"Jesus" will return from his death and take all the "saved" or christian beleivers back to "heaven" and leave the on-beleivers to die and have eternal death in "hell".

Which of the possibilities are most likely to happen? We don't know. I, quite frankly, beleive in the evidence/facts that scientist show me and that the universe will end in geological disasters, not religious.

I believe Theory Four will happen and that Jesus will come back but that is just me. However, I definetly do not want to get into a religous argument on this site though.

I dont think any of those will happen. Eventually, a metore or some sort of big ass fucking rock will knock the shit out of earth. A meteore hitting earth has the same impact as 4 ATOMIC BOMBS!!!! There will definitely be something hitting the Earth no doubt, there is no way all those rocks can dodge us. We're fucked, and its only in a matter of time :)

I think the universe has always been here and will always exist in some form or another. Time and existence does not work like a fairytale or a movie.
There is no explosive BEGININGS or hopeless ENDS just existance. Endless Time and space.

The end of our pointless planet on the other hand is unavoidable, but my bet is the death of our sun. thats about the only thing that could realy destroy ALL life. Including bacteria, cockroaches and so on.

Humanity i belive could end in a number of ways. But the most probable cause would be a War/Polution Combo. The nukes and bullets killing most. The chemicals and radiation rendering the remainder sterile/starving.

But since we are a survival keen species i think we would realy regress into the murderous savages that we realy are. killing and looting in barbarian tribes!! Mouahahahaha! (sorry, got carried away) :D

But thats just my theory.
Even if any of your scenarios were realised the universe would still be pressent

I think the sun theory (turn to red giant then white dwarf) is most plausible.

Oh and if the expanding/contracting universe theory is fact, and the universe collapses on itself, it still by theory should cause another "Big Bang" and create an entire new universe. I mean by scientific means the proof is here now.

I don't know. I think the big-assed aliens playing marbles with our universe will just one day smack it too hard and break it. :)

i don't think the universe will end. it has always been and always will be. as for the earth and everything else contained in the universe, it will die one day and something else will replace it.

how exactly the earth will end, i don't know. i would like to think that a meteor of ice cream comes and plops on us and freezes up the earth and then boom.

most likely situation is that the sun will reach the end of its life and supernova and the earth will be destroyed that way. but i like the ice cream option one more... go out in style:tongue:

so you when you're talking to aliens in heaven they'll ask, "so how did your planet die?"

we'd reply, "ice cream."

That's my take. BTW: Lemmie know what u though of the video if u haven't alreay seen it.

I would love the universe to go down proving the chaos-theory.
Like a big astrobutterfly ( uuhhh yeah I made it up -.- ) farts in the one corner of the universe ( yeah it doesn't have one but it's gonna go down so who cares ? ^^ ) and by this make the whole universe just dissapear into nothingness ... O_o ... or maybe a giant clock with a cold could sneeze the universe into pieces ? ... that would also be neat ^^

most likely we'll all have taken the dirt nap long before the earth OR the universe ends, so it's kind of a pointless question.

but i'd like to know why the only religious ending people seem to consider is the Christian version. I'm sure the other major religions (Judaism, Islam, Hindu, Buddhism, etc.) have their explanation of the end. does anyone know any of their endings?

Gotie
01-26-2006, 06:36 PM
I think in Buddhism there isn't a real end as in the end of the universe ....
the only end I know of is the return of buddha. But it's not like he's gonna act like Godzilla and go rampage... so maybe the end is paradise ? O_o
I'm too lazy to go look it up right now ^^ so this all out of long long ago memories ...
isn't buddhism the religion where everything gets reborn anyways ? ... so that's what would happen ^^

The sun will most probably not end in a supernova... It will first become a red giant (engulfing earth) and then a white dwarf.
edit: so nothing stylish, unless a VERY big meteor hits earth, cracking it :)

And I'd probably support the first theory, all stars eventually run out of fuel and no new star are born
->radiation pressure stops existing
->everything collapses in black holes
->the black holes collapse into one big black hole
->time stops existing, for nothing happens.

The Hindu believe in a "thousand gods" and what is called pluralism; that is, no religion is right or wrong but all have their place and brought together speak one truth.

The Navaho believe humans have been through four different developments; that is, there have been four separate human histories progressing all the way to modern times which are destroyed and then begun again. They say the time of the white man is coming to an end and the final fifth of human history will begin. I didn't catch what ethnic group who will be dominant next but they'll apparently fuck it up like everyone else has in the past.

I tend to think the fire or ice theories should be combined, that the universe will first run out of "steam" and spread out so far and wide it will eventually collapse in on itself, (ice), then because of the sudden collapse an explosion will occur, (fire), creating something new, perhaps a new universe.

As for the earth, mankind has pretty stupid for being sapient. I think we will destroy ourselves through our own cleverness, either with a weapon of mass destruction, (nuclear, chemical or biological), or, as mentioned by another poster, something really clever like a nanomachine programmed to "disassemble" whatever it comes in contact with and use the matter to replicate itself and then some noob lab tech accidentally washing it down the sink.

The Mayan calendar stops at December 21, 2012 because they believed that date is the day the world will end. Apparently, there is a vague prediction by Leonardo da Vinci a meteor is supposed to hit the earth that year. Bible scholars that find hidden code in bible text point to the same year as a time of plague, starvation, extreme weather castrophes, and the extinction of mankind.

More recently, Sidney Has No Horses, a resident of Pine Ridge Reservation, a yuwipi man, (a medicine man) said he was visited by two angels, and some very prominent historical Native Americans such as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Chief Big Foot, who told him of the destruction by flood and tsunami in the Indian Ocean, earthquakes in South America, the fires in the south and the hurricanes in the southeastern states. He said one more severe hurricane is headed their way and that Los Angeles will be destroyed by a tidal wave.

Within six months after the tidal wave, there 's going to be two volcanic eruptions in the northwest. From the eruptions of theses volcanoes, the ash is coming, the Missouri River will be destroyed and the water they drink from the ground is going to be no longer drinkable. He says this has something to do with the fourth seal being opened which is a bible reference to a time of great sorrow on the earth. Pretty much all hell breaks loose during this time with disease wiping out a good portion of the world's population.

Have a nice day.

BigSweetJack Elite Hunting was curious how a few other religions besides Christianity saw how the world would end and I gave him a few examples. It doesn't really matter if any one religion gets the end of the world scenario right...a split second after it's all over nobody will care, including people in science.

Once everything that could ever possibly happen... does, then an all knowing all seeing being will reform and immediately go insane with boredom. Then it will split itself into an infinite amount of parts and the multiverse will reform from the beginning. Rinse... repeat. This takes a long long long time.

I believe there are several ways the Earth or universe can go:

Comet

Gradual slowing of orbit, resulting in gravity pulling the Earth into the sun

Our sun gets old enough to become a red giant. The radius of the red giant will be larger than the orbit of Mars, hence engulfing everything.

Supernovas occur all the time, however there are about only 3 document cases, thankfully; a close enough supernova would be a beautiful sight, until massive radiation eradicates all life.

All processes are known to move toward states of greater entropy. Entropy is the measure of disorder of a system. The universe will cool down and matter will be dispersed in such a way that there will be no order to it and everything will be the same temperature. Hence no work can be done and there is no way of anything living.

The Norse believed the world would end with Ragnarok, an eternal winter.

Before I noticed someone talking about how the universe existed for an infinite amount of time.
Physics says otherwise.
The Doppler effect states that an object moving away from an observer apears to emit lower frequency waves. The same is true for an object moving toward an observer, except waves appear to be higher frequency. All galaxies in our universe appear red to us. Most galaxies are composed of hydrogen, which is not red. Thus, all galaxies must be moving away from us, as this would cause light to move toward the red spectrum. As time goes on, the galaxies become farther apart, therefore, as time goes in reverse all galaxies become closer together. That means there is a time in the past in which all of the galaxies were so close as to be in the same spot. This means there was a beginning to the universe. QED

I think the sun will die out and leave the earth dark and cold...nothing will survive we all need warmth and light that's why only life exists on earth

The universe will die out scientifically in my opinion because science is science and nothing else, we all believe in it the same. Religion is interpreted in too many ways...naturally every person will believe the universe will end due to their religion

The world will end when the Trix rabbit finally gets his Trix!!!

But in reality, I believe the world will end with a meteor hit so hard that it will knock the earth out of its orbit and whoever's left after the impact will die under the extremely cold conditions from the lack of the sun.

I think this planet will end at our own hands. We're so destructive, it only seems like a matter of time before we create our own Armageddon.

If this race made it to a time when the sun began to change drastically, then we've done better than I ever would expect.

when the sun dies out - it will become a black hole.
It will suck everything into it, even light. But before that it will become a red giant and engulf the planets closest to it - we are one of those lucky planets.

To understand a black hole we must first understand the emptiness of space.
Space is what we call a "Vaccum". The absence of forces. Something that pushes can be called a positive force, something that pulls is then called a negative force.
A black hole is a negative force. Infact, The universe's most powerful negative force.
But what happens when this black hole has sucked in it's fill? It's pull is so great that it keeps sucking. And we know what happens when too much air is pumped into a balloon. But we're not talking about the wall of a balloon, we are talking about the fabric of the universe. The resul of this would be the same result as two blackholes sucking away at each other...

one almighty BIG BANG!!!

HavokChylde

Our sun doesn't have enough mass to turn into a black hole.

Do you think it's just going to wither away?

Our sun is quite young and it's destined to become a red giant. Even if earth's orbit around the sun increases, we still might not have a chance of escaping radiation, or even getting crispified.

I still think it'll be at our own hands.

The sun could also become a neutron star, which would be just as bad as a black hole. But I think we will finally find intelligent life in the universe, we'll piss them off and they'll destroy us.

Or the universe will just expand into oblivion and die out.

Just before the asteroid hits, in a final great act of defiance, I will proudly raise my middle finger and flip off the asteroid while activating my electronic thumb.

When we get to Milliways, I highly recommend ordering the pasta, as we pray...

Our Monster, though art the pasta, hallowed by thy sauce. Thy cheese has come, thy meatballs are done, on plate as they are in saucepan. Give us this day our garlic toast, and forgive us our trespasses to another's plate, as we forgive those who trespass to our's. Lead us not into pesto, but deliver us from anti-pasta. For thy art the carbohydrates, and the protein and the veggies, for ever and ever.

The sun going into it's red giant stage is my prediction for the end of the earth. This planet has been around a hell of a long time with a lot of things happening to it. Nature itself is far more cataclysmic that we are. Are we really arrogant enough to think we can destroy this planet ourselves? I'm sure we can destroy our entire population etc. but the earth will still be around after we are extinct.
