The computer I currently own is about 4 years old.
1.2 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 256 MB SDRAM (only after salvaging one 128MB stick from a friend's trashed computer), 40 GB HD, Generic HP CD burner, 17 inch monitor (again, salvaged from friend's trashed computer), 4 MB onboard graphics (disabled and replaced with a 64MB nVidia GeForce 2 PCI graphics card), onboard sound card with two shitty little speakers, 2 USB 1.0 ports.
Initial cost of PC: $900
Total amount of money spent on upgrades: $100
Current value of PC: probably less than $300
I really... REALLY hate HP. Next computer I get I'm going to build myself.

FreeSpace 2 > FreeSpace 1 > Wing Commander Series > Super StarFox > StarFox 64 > Shadow Squadron (Sega 32X)
All the space sims I played. I grew up with those things. That, Descent, and Sonic. OH, AND VIRTUA RACING DELUXE!
90's Gaming > All Gaming Eras
2002 > All years for gaming
2004 > All years for FPS titles
That's just my personal countdown.
The 90's owned, because everyone was ripping off of each other, WHILE innovating.
Wolf3D, then Doom. Then Descent, which was never a Doom clone, then marketed as one. It was a flight sim/80's action arcade game hybrid.
Then, you had the KING of all gun-totin FPS's: Duke Nukem 3D!
Strippers, hookers, and aliens, oh my!
The automatic pistol is almost as fun as the Doom shotgun, which as almost as fun as Descent's Plasma Cannon. That cannon shot so fast it made you swear you were piloting a Ferrari.
Damn, we need the 90's back. I'm gonna go build me a time machine!

Please explain how 3 pieces of consumer grade electronics makes you an audiophile.
I've seen you post repeatedly about how you're an audiophile, as if you're trying to convince everyone that you actually are.
Here's a tip... audiophiles actually use audiophile grade equipment because they know it sounds better.
Get out of consumer grade, and you'd know that.
Descent

Get out of consumer grade, and you'd know that.
You're telling an unemployed 16 year old to get out of consumer grade?!
Wow. Like I can afford that.
I am probobly going to buy a Rotel in the summer, and as for Paradigm, they are VERY high grade consumer.
In fact, they make a set a $3000 speakers my father and me were amazed with. The sound was so warm and balanced, it was unbelievable!
Such deep bass, tight midrange, and crisp treble, all coupled with crystal clear sound, to the point where all you truly heard was the music, and not a bit of anything else.
You have to admit, the Atoms are killer speakers for $180 a pair. I hate listening to MP3's on them, the experience is tainted. They expose all of the flaws in that format.
I'll keep the Santa Cruz because it's better for gaming than an M-Audio, IMO. It's 3D stereo enhancement kicks ass. It really gives me the edge I need in UT.

Clearly, you've never used a Santa Cruz, because it's 3D Stereo Enhancement creates perfect, uncolored 5.1 surround, thanks to Sensaura technology.
And yes, I can get really good 5.1 sound with two stereo speakers.
Do you use an Audigy 2?

You're telling an unemployed 16 year old to get out of consumer grade?!
Wow. Like I can afford that.
If you can't afford it, stop trying to pretend by saying that you're an audiophile, when clearly you're not.
I can appreciate that you "like audio", but let's be realistic... how can you possibly call yourself an audiophile if you've never listened (a VERY safe assumption based on the equipment you tout) to equipment that's actually considered audiophile-class?
That's like someone who's 5'3" trying to tell Shaq what it's like to be tall. How would they possibly have any clue what it's like?
Yes, Paradigm makes good speakers... at the high end. Which the Atoms are not. In fact, they are the lowest-end model they offer in their performance line.
My "commuting" headphones (ie. the ones I wear on the way to work) cost more than your speakers. My "good" headphones... more than twice as much. Both are considered audiophile quality. Both get run through a headphone amp before I'll even consider listening to them.
My HT amp, and I can say this with the utmost degree of certainty, cost more than your speakers, AVR, and probably all of the computer parts you own, put together. Why? Because I actually care what things sound like when I play them.
It's not about cost though... it's about quality. An audiophile cares more about sound quality than anything else. If you're still listening to Paradigm Atoms, you really have a thing to learn about sound quality.
Now, again, what's it like being tall?
And yes, I can get really good 5.1 sound with two stereo speakers.
There's nothing I can possibly say that proves my above point better about how little you know about audio than you just did with that statement.

I've heard super audiophiles are elitist.
You just proved my point. FYI, the guys in the store we shop at are old-school, two channel guys, who have the store lined with rare LP's, high end equipment, and many other things.
I you think that Paradigm Atoms sound like crap, I truly, dearly feel sorry for you.
If your expectations are that high for your equipment, why are you calling someone with a setup that is superior to almost everyone else here who buys Logitech and Creative speakers a retard?
You have to make do with what you have. Would I buy a set of Theils or $3000 Paradigms? Yes! But I don't have that kind of cash.
Considering the limited budget I have, I did a good job. You can't deny that.
You should look at the whole picture. Very few audiophiles spend that much on equipment, you're one of those guys who's never satisfied with their equipment.
Doesn't it reach a point where you spend too much?
Oh, and by the way, consult Junglizm or Morelos about Turtle Beach. They know how good they are for the money.
And yes, I can get really good 5.1 sound with two stereo speakers.

Yes, you've heard... you don't actually know from experience.
You just proved my point. FYI, the guys in the store we shop at are old-school, two channel guys, who have the store lined with rare LP's, high end equipment, and many other things.
That's like saying you're an audiophile because you know someone who is. It has nothing to do with anything. Move on.
I you think that Paradigm Atoms sound like crap, I truly, dearly feel sorry for you.
I never said they sound like crap. But if you think they're great speakers, you've obviously never heard the difference between them and high end speakers, and have no basis for comparison, so you have no idea what you're talking about. Period.
If your expectations are that high for your equipment, why are you calling someone with a setup that is superior to almost everyone else here who buys Logitech and Creative speakers a retard?
Again, has absolutely nothing to do with anything. We're not talking about computer speakers. I question why you even brought it up.
You have to make do with what you have. Would I buy a set of Theils or $3000 Paradigms? Yes! But I don't have that kind of cash.
Considering the limited budget I have, I did a good job. You can't deny that.
I never did deny that. However, it still doesn't make them audiophile-grade, nor you an audiophile.
You can't deny that they are entry-level consumer grade speakers. That's the product line they're made for, that's the component grade they're built with, that's the market segment they're targeted for, and that's the retail chains they're sold in.
You should look at the whole picture. Very few audiophiles spend that much on equipment, you're one of those guys who's never satisfied with their equipment.
When did I ever say I wasn't satisfied with my equipment?!? I'm completely enamored with my equipment and the setup I have. That's because I did the research, picked out the right parts, and spent an appropriate amount of money to achieve the sound quality I desired.
Clearly, you have absolutely no idea of what an audiophile actually is. As I said before, it has nothing to do with money, and everything to do with quality.
Doesn't it reach a point where you spend too much?
No, but when you achieve the sound you want, it's the point where you've spent enough. If you were an audiophile, you'd actually know that.
Again, the point isn't about spending money. You're problem is that you're walking around, saying you're an audiophile, when you CLEARLY have no idea of what good sound quality is based on the equipment you're using.
If you had true audiophile quality components, you'd hear the difference immediately, and it would be a night and day difference. But as is, you have absolutely no basis for comparison. You only know what other people have... not what it actually sounds like.
Oh, and by the way, consult Junglizm or Morelos about Turtle Beach. They know how good they are for the money.
What for?!? They're not the ones claiming to be audiophiles using that card.
I know the Turtle Beach stuff is good. I own an Audiotron. But then, I'm not the one claiming that it's audiophile quality.
If you were to play UT99 or FreeSpace 2 in A3D mode, you'd see my point.
Your point was that you get 5.1 sound from a 2.1 setup.
Sorry, it's impossible. You're getting synthesized sound effects instead of discrete channels. There is NO comparison. So, again, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
