View Full Version : Who here is armed most of the time?
It's definitely a lifestyle choice, the right, and the want, to bare arms. How many of you have a license for concealed weapons and carry a loaded pistol? How many of you have knives or other weapons on yourself most of the time?
I have plenty of weapons, knives, swords (real ones), and a pistol at my house. I don't have a concealed weapons permit, though when I'm going to a major city I carry my pistol with me in any case. If I go camping, or even for a drive Wayyy out somewhere, I at the minimum keep a couple solid knives with me.
How about you folks?

I think it goes without saying.
However, on base I don't keep the pistol. Too much of a hassle. I keep it safe back home with my father.
I have a ridiculous knife collection. I only buy knives that are practical/tactical. No folding knives at all. Definately no display knives.
I have a few swords, and 2 or 3 high-quality machetes. All of them are battle-ready.
If you want some knives/swords for a good price, go to cheapasdirt.com. They're cheap, and somewhat durable- but stay away from their swords.

I carry throwing knives on me when traveling, that's it for now. I'm getting my carry permit and will most likely have either a berretta or baby eagle. I love scatter guns and long rifles, and my favorite pistol would have to be an old Navy Colt 45. It's like burping a baby
Well the military men have weighed in, heh, myself included, I'm curious to see if anyone who is on WTF and has never been in the military is packing anything.

Yes, but outside your home, do you carry one of those knives on any regular basis?

Do you really need to carry weapons? Here, you'd be safer if you didn't.
Anotheruser I guess it does somewhat depend on where you are. There are some real "back wood" places not far from where I live, so I feel the need to go armed. To be honest, I feel the same way about larger cities as well. Welcome to the Jungle and all that, heh.

I carry a leatherman and a buck knife at all times, but those are mostly for utility. For defense, I carry a butterfly knife. I like it because I can just latch it and keep it in my pocket, like my other knives, but I can have it open and ready in a split second with one hand. And it's less illegal than, say, a switchblade, which is nice for the same reasons.
No guns. I hate them.

Better if both sides (good and bad) had guns... rather than just the bad ones and the unarmed innocents are PHUCKED!

I used to have all kinds of guns... but I gave most of them to my uncle shortly before I got convicted on my felony charge. I'm not a violent felon, and I've only ever used my guns for hunting. I was just one of those dumb and reckless young men that got caught with meth on them. That was over 8 years ago and I've never had a violent offense on my record. I think it's mainly the violent offenders that should be stripped of their right to carry, but not every Tom, Dick, and Jane that happens to get caught doing something personally irresponsible.
On the flipside though, I used to carry a knife with me... but I never used it when I fought so I keep them at home anyway now. On the occasion that I do carry one now for "show-off" purposes when I get a new one, I never carry large knives because felons are not privy to getting that option (at least not in California). I have several knives and swords (the swords being from martial arts practice), which I keep in home for defense against intruders (no one really breaks in with a gun out here, so a sword does a fine job of intimidation). EDIT: I also have only one display knife, and that is the one that my birth-father bought for my birthday last year. I generally don't like display knives, but this one does mean something though.
Although the funny thing is, even though I can't get a concealed weapons license... if I so wished, I could walk down the street with my bow & arrows. Strange the weapons that they still allow you to have sometimes.

It's the typical hippie mentality. "There are no bad people, it's our fault for not understanding them. If we be nice, it will all go away. Let the police deal with these people, but the police cannot search or detain anyone because we all have rights."

Before I went into the army I carried a pocket knife everywhere I went. But it was used only for work. Then while int the army I switched to a Schrade LB7 + lock blade as it could just hang on my belt and was in easy reach for whatever. After experiencing a riot in Seoul South Korea I bought a second for the other hand. When I arrived in Colorado Springs I gave both away and went back to the pocket knife.
But things change, so I still carry the pocket knife as a working tool, Yes I do keep the blades fairly sharp as a dull knife is practically useless. But in light of the current social circumstances I have found it necessary to carry something in my pick-up for a more aggressive form of self protection, hence the .22 cal. chrome plated six shooter. At school it stays locked up in my tool box. But any other place it is always within reach.
When cops stop me I just put it on the dash in plain view. If they ask to see it I tell them to reach in and get it. Sometimes I have to hang it from the gun rack. but mostly it sets right next to me on the seat.
At other times I carry either my .22 rifle or a 30-30.

Damn straight. Better sleep with one eye open.
I'm armed with my mental prowess. Honestly though, I just tell a guy what my kinks are and they run away. Hahahahha.
I have two swords in my living room, one placed close to the front door. Both are sharp, well cared for, and, being 1045 carbon steel, have passed the '15 water bottle test'.
I'm planning on buying an 870 sometime; I have my eye on a short-barreled poly-stock at the local gun shop.
Alaska is a carry-conceal state. Once you are 21, you don't need a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Enough people practice this that crime is pretty low around here, and I plan on buying either a Taurus or a Glock when I hit 21.

i'm really not into violence...but i understand why people have stuff for saftey. i simply do the "put the keys between your fingers" trick whenever i get nervous. punch someone with that and it will homefully give you a few seconds to run. i try to stay out of places where i know i could be in danger and i also never go anywhere alone unless i have to. walking through the quad at school makes me nervous, but if i have to, i'll go through that alone.

I have a few swords (real ones) and a 12 inch kuhkri. (if you don't know what that is, read Hostile's zombie thread, it's very informative) All of which are still at my dad's place. I haven't really been in a situation where I have had to use those seriously yet.
My dad also got me a QBZ-95 Bullpup in case of communist uprisings (I guess(ironically it is a chinese made gun)) which is also at his house since I don't have a liscence to own it personally.
So I guess you could say I own alot of weapons, but I am armed only 1.35% of the time...

Right now, I live in place in which violent crime is pretty much non-existent. This is a place such that when you do something wrong, the police do not show up to arrest you, a lawyer shows up to sue you. There is so little crime here, that a flasher makes the 10 o'clock news. That being the case, I feel safe without direct access to an armory.

I'm in an area where I'm liable to get stopped by drunks or crackheads whenever I venture outside my college campus. As such, I carry a Gerber folder. I'd prefer a fixed or switchblade, but both are illegal to carry here, but thumb studs aren't, and I'm fast enough with it. At home I have a double-barrel shotgun, a rather unnecessary assortment of hunting, throwing, and pocketknives, an axe, and a baseball bat.
An axe? you wonder. It's my first choice when those fucking coyotes and badgers come around, because gunshots always bring cops.
Switch blade & also a Police baton hidden in my truck.
Just because...

I have a pair of nunchaku, a nine-section whip, several baseball bats of varying sizes, a bamboo club, several pipes, an old hockey stick and a small camping knife in my house. But i usually only carry the knife around. Sometimes the nunchaku. But never to school. Here, carrying a weapon in school is grounds for expulsion (unless your on good terms with the teacher that caught you) Not to mention the fact that if i seriously hurt any Malays, I get screwed while the Malays walk free. Damn discrimination. So, i've never resorted to weapons. I fight hand to hand (this is where martial arts comes in handy) The only reason i carry weapons around is because i'm not an overconfident fool

I'm not old enough to get a license to hold a weapon, but once I am I don't think I would carry one around much.
In certain cases I would carry a knife and probably only carry a gun if I'm going to be camping for obvious reasons.
I always carry pepper spray in my purse. I've never used it but I have threatned to.

I've been meaning to get a permit to carry, but I keep getting lazy and going to college (where I'm sure I wouldn't be allowed to have it anywhere even remotely near me). At best, I carry a small knife for opening things, and so on. In that case, I'm more equipped (tool) than armed (weapon).

With our laws up here it's illegal to carry a handgun anywhere, as far as I know. There may be a few exceptions, but I do know that legally you have to get a damn permit to move a handgun away from the address it is registered to!
Personally I don't ever feel that I need a weapon, as I live in a small town that is always quite quiet. However, if we did have concealed carry permits, I would get one once I got a handgun, just so I would have the option to carry at any time.
Otherwise, I have no guns as of yet. Once I can afford to buy guns, I will buy a few rifles and a couple shotguns, mostly just because I like shooting.
EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to specify that I'm in Canada.

Indiana, if I remember, requires a permit to carry...but that permit allows you to either open or conceal carry. That having been said, most places in Indy REALLY don't like you to open carry. It worries people.

I temporarily live in Indiana (military) and they gave me a permit... I was shocked at how easy it was... I got an Indiana ID card using my hotel address... the army had me staying in a hotel for months.. so I got my bills there... got a background check.. fingerprinted.. and sent in $40(i think).. and they mailed it to my hotel...

I grew up sorta old school, so I believe in the cowboy way of doing things.
Take off your gun/s before entering any business establishment.
Wipe the crap/mud off your boots before going inside.
Dont let "friends" borrow anything.
Good gun control means you hit what you are shooting at most of the time.
Strive for excellence.
Carry open.
