And not just from the police or miniature clows with fangs and claws.

I need tips for running my 2 mile run. And im not talking "train hard"

I'm talking, "Take 10 sudaphed 15 minutes before the beginning of the run"

Im too lazy to actually get up in the morning and run before work. I like sleep.

Also, anyoen know a good stretch routine right before running?

stretching before running is a bad idea, your muscles are tight and you risk tearing or pulling a muscle just stretching it out, warm up for about 10 minutes before you start the real run, run like 2 laps around your house or something to that effect then stretch out.

EVERY STRETCH SHOULD LAST FOR 30-45 SECONDS OR YOU ARE NOT GONNA GET YOURSELF STRETCHED OUT AT ALL AND PULL A MUSCLE AND THAT FUCKING SUCKS RAUNCHY NUTSACK

first thing i like to do is standing up bring one leg up and hold toes with opposite hand and pull up until you feel it hold for, switch

next still standing take a giant step forward and hold it then do it agian, hold it agian.

third on your ass bring your feet together hold your toes and use your elbows to push your knees down (i call this a hummer(old lax habit))

fourth on your ass agian one leg straight the other over it bent use the arm that is on the side your leg is straight and push your elbow against your knee of the bent leg twist your back toward the side your leg is bent on (like a sexy secertary)

fifth for shin splints standing write the alphabet with your foot.

sixth sitting spread your legs reach and touch your toes

seventh get into a push up position cross your feet angle them until you feel the pull in your calf keep your feet flat.

I used to run about an hour 3 days a week. It was all the time I could afford because of the kids, but now I'm pregnant with twins, so no running for a while. I have invested in a treadmill even though they don't give me the same workout, because it's the middle of winter I'm not going to drag my newborns out in the cold just to run.

I love running though, especially first thing in the morning when it's a bit cool and damp from the dew.

Stretching anytime before, during or after running is better than not stretching at all, to keep from getting shin splints. but I'd google leg stretches, because then you'll be able to get pictures.

I do. I run Cross Country every season. Good stretches are the Achilles (while sitting, extend your legs together and place the right foot on top of the left and vice versa) and the flamingo (self explanatory). Carboload before runs supposedly works but I've never tried it. What's your fastest mile? Mine's 5:45.

My stretch routine goes as follows:

(Standing)
Lunges to the right
Lunges to the left
Right over left
Left over right
Feet together
Flamingo right
Flamingo left
Cherry pickers (touch left foot, then middle, then right foot)

(Sitting)
Right leg in, left out
Left leg in, right out
Feet together
Achilles right
Achilles left
Butterfly's

(Other)
Sit-ups (I believe it helps stop cramps)
Pushups (There is no real reason, I just do them)

I'm actually a night runner and whats worse is I run on asphault. So I'm sure my knees will thank me when I'm 40. Anyway, I do very little stretching before running. I'll lunge without bending my back knee and keeping the heel flat on each leg, without bouncing. I also raise a knee at a time up to my abdomen and press it against my stomach with my arms for a few seconds. Other than that, I stretch after my run. The post-running stretches include stretched out strides foreward and backward, spreading my legs and leaning from one knee to the other, and wall (or car) presses focusing on the calf. A warning if you become a night runner: be very careful about what position you fall asleep in, because more than once I balled up when I fell asleep and woke up almost unable to stretch out again. A side note, weight lifting is even worse, my right arm was locked at the elbow in a 90 deg angle for an entire day because I fell asleep with it like that.

Don't drink or eat too much before you run. A little bit is fine, but you don't want to chow down 3 bowls of Lucky Charms with whole milk before you run two miles.

Do some stretching, nothing really strenuous, and do a little warm up jog.

And I know everyone says "After you're done, don't sit down, you'll cramp up", but I always just fucking lie down after running for a while.

My fastest two-mile time was 13:01.

when you run try to exhale as much air as posable and inhale as little as posible as well mantaining a steady breathing rythem.

if you do this correctly your heart will not need to pump as much blood because it will have a higher oxygen content.

if you can do this you will be able to run farther but not faster.

You're fucking right I'm going to run. This bullshit is ridiculious. Just because someone turns 21 dosen't mean they stop being human. I'm fed up with this ageist society, and I intent to get as many people together when its my time and rush the god damned Sand men if they come for us.
Who wouldn't run?

ANYHOW!?!
I prefer to walk for a long period of time. Running wears out my shoes and my feet very quickly.

Wow.

That's twice as long as me.

I used to be in insane shape. Then I got old.

When I was doing softball in high school I could run pretty good. We used to do reps of run for 3 minutes, walk for 1, run for 3 minutes, walk for 1, and we'd do that about 6 times up and down steps and down the halls in my school. If I tried to do that now I'd pass out after one minute.

2 mile run.. hmmm.. is this for a military pt test?... I am assuming this cause it looks like you are looking for the "quick fix"... and don't seem to really want to train for it.. sooooo if thats the case... I would just say .. pace with someone that always passes... no matter how much it hurts.. never quit.. your body will keep going despite your pain.. never walk.. it takes too much time off your final time.. everyone knows and talks shit about those that don't pass.. especially those that quit.. think about all the losers that are beating you and draw some inspiration outta beating them..
I also like to load up on carbs a couple days out.. rice and brown sugar.. mmmmm... delicious...

Isnt it Inhale deeply, exhale briefly?
because inhaling fuels your muscles with oxygen, and if you exhale too deeply, your lungs will get tired.

And theres an energy bar type thing that you mix with water and eat. I forget the name of it, but it kept my muscles going when I was doing Kick Boxing last year. Worked really well, maybe it'll be good for running as well.

Yes, inhale deeply and exhale quickly, and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Most of the advice above is good. I've just got one more thing to add, it may sound stupid and obvious, but you wouldn't believe how many people overlook this: Buy the right trainers for the job!

Having the right footware can make your run that little bit more comfortable. Pop down to your local sport shop and ask, they should know what's best for you. I'd advice on a pair of trainers with air pockets in the heel - shock absorbers or whatever you call 'em.

it is my PT test, and Ive been doing it for a few years now. I have never failed, my fastest is a 13 flat. Just getting lazy and thinking it might get more difficult here in the next few years. Quick fixes kick ass

:flamed: Hey man I run 3 miles a day for fun. If you want to sleep in thats fine but try not to get to much sleep, just tell your self when you get up that you need to go running our you will do the same thing every day. Just get up and go for it, but if you don't start now then you will not start at all.
