I can't vote in this poll, it doesn't have my favorite title's genre: 1st Person Shooter: that distinction goes to Halo
My Top 10 Game List is:
1.Halo 2 : 1PS
2.Halo 1 : 1PS
3.Daiblo 2 : RPG
4.StarCraft : RTS
5.WarCraft II : RTS
6.Mortal Kombat 3 : Fighting
7.X-Com UFO Defense : TBS
8.Civilizations 2 : TBS (haven't gotten to play Alpha Centari or Civ3)
9.Tie Fighter : FlightSim
10. Metroid : ?RPG/Action-Puzzle?
With the exception of Halo2, I've based this on total time spent playing. I haven't had my hands on Halo2 long enough for it to surpass OG Halo, but because ((Time I've spent playing it)/(Total time available for playing it))*(Satisfaction with playing it) > .999, I think I will continue to play it whenever I have the opportunity for years!

i like pretty much any type of game, as long as the game itself isnt too easy to beat, or can be beaten in a short amount of time. lately i've been getting into 1st person shooter games alot

well since i didnt think of that in advance, i guess you should consider the fps a rpg since its not really fighting compared to the storyline your going through.

I see no one posted Tekken Tag...I am a God at that game...King and Jin...I should have entered a tournament or something to try and win back the wasted life I spent on that game. Is Tekken 5 going to be online? and Tekken 4 sucked by the way...The only decent new fighter was the boxer guy "Steve Fox" or something.

True, but when you get into a skill game such as marvel vs capcom 2, and you learn wave dashes and combo links into specials, then shit gets FLASHY
My favorites Guiles sonic hurricane into charlies preset combo special then into hayatos level 3.

My list of All Time Favorites:
1 : Rainbow Six 3: RavenShield (purely for online play + the realism; clan matching was truely a blast at the peak of it's competitive days)
2 : Unreal Tournament 2k3/2k4 (everyone needs to get the UT out sometimes; truely a blast if you practice enough and go to LAN parties)
3 : Halo 2 (best team-based FPS ever; argue and you're wrong)
4 : The Sum of All Fears (PC) (amazingly fun public servers & close-knit community + competitive edge at the time it was popular)
5 : Call of Duty (PC) (most fun WWII emulation game ever. f the console version)
6 : Doom 3 (seriously the scariest game i've ever played...it's so cinematical)
7 : Super Mario Kart (I was ranked 3rd nationally when I was 9 on the ghost track in time trials)
8 : Zelda 64 - Ocarina of Time (great story, great adventure...a true masterpiece)
9 : Far Cry (sick graphics, awesome gameplay; amazing for LAN parties)
10 : Final Fantasy VIII (just an all-around great game...9 and 10 suck; havent tried 11)
i had to revise this list a few times cuz i couldnt decide.
a few which were up there on the list (you might not have heard of a few of these):

Goldeneye!!!!
good call.
Ummmm....Zelda 64 was amazing and i remember Mario Kart on the super nintendo was the shit. Counter Strike on the Xbox had my life for about four months...Conkers Bad Fur Day was the most underated game of the 64 "era" it was fantastic...if you havent played....get a rom of that shit or something. I got into the Tomb Raiders up until the third one.
Resident Evil 4 is the most atmospheric game EVER....its freaking amazing. Resident Evil 2 is what hooked me and I played through the series out of habit. Metal Gears of course...GTA 3 was great.
Battle Toads Vs. Double Dragon (on the Super Nintendo)....The tightest shit....second only to MegaMan himself.

NWN is good; just I don't like the style of fighting. I likebeing able to massively click and destroy(Diablo 2), and not take turns rolling dice (D&D style).
But I like the Final Fantasy series, Pirates!, and most games where I have to build a civilization or city or something. I like to build.
Also, the Gran Turismo games; I am buying 4 tonight. :D

I can't believe I forgot about DBZ-Budokai!!! well i dont mean to be one of those people, but since the topic is all time favorite video game, im going to have to say that i prefer RPGs. my favorite RPGs of course being Ultima, specifically Ultima VI and VII. i also really liked Mario RPG. ive played FF, but i never got into it that much, same goes for chrono trigger.
i also like fighters, i own all the mortal kombats, street fighter 1 and 2, and that's it. the only fighting game i really like to play is mortal kombat. although i havent played that in years, i havent bought deception yet and probably wont. i just dont like it that much anymore, when they killed lou kang... *cries*...

What genre would you consider GTA? San Andreas is an rpg of sorts since you have stats and shit you max out by working out, and doing there consistant skills. So i dont know. I will take any Zelda games, Mario games, GTA games..NFSU and NFSU2 were great, Metal Gear Solid - Substance was good. Ahh, This topic deserves a board of its own

there is so much merging between genres now, y'know? if i had to pick a genre between a fighter and an rpg it would be an rpg - only on the basis that you can play an rpg for hours on end and a fighter, after beating it a few times, gets old fast. but here's my list of my current faves....
Action/Adventure: God of War (kicks ass!), Tenchu
Action: Devil May Cry (1,3), Grand Theft Auto (3, VC, & SA), Metal Gear Solid (1, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater - wtf is the "La Le Li Le Lo"? we'll never know folks  )
Driving: Midnight Club 3, Twisted Metal 3
Platformer: Ratchet & Clank (1,2,3), Mario Sunshine, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper (1,2)
FPS: Metroid Prime, Doom (the newst one), Chronicles of Riddick
Shooter: (gotta go ol' skool.....) Galaga, Gradius, Centipede
RPG: Legend of Dragoon (PS1, not as famous as FF but it was still good), X-men Legends, FF (7, 9, 10, 10-2), Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past (SNES)
MMORPG: City of Heroes, EverQuest
Survival Horror: Silent Hill (still scares the shit outta me), Resident Evil 2 (might be old now but still a fave)
Fighter: King of Fighters Maximum Impact, Mortal Kombat Deception, Marvel vs Capcom (ol' skool classic and still kickin' ass)
Simulation (not sure if these games qualify): The Sims 2 (PC), The Urbz (PS2)
Puzzle: Lumines (PSP), Ms. Pacman (Sega Genesis), Namco Museum (PSP - the pacman revamped game is really fun), Frequency (and Amplitude - the best musical fun with your favorite artists)

FPS: Halo 2, best multiplayer FPS, single isn't as good, but still amazing, with an excellent storyline.
RPG: GTA 2, old, and you can out-drive bullets, but I used to play this game obssesively.
RACING: Entire Midnight Club Series
SPORTS: FIFA 05, or maybe NHL 06 when it comes out.
FIGHTER: Dead or Alive 3
GAME THAT HAS ME HOOKED: For some reason I can't stop playing all these shitty Mario hacks...

Descent
09-08-2005, 10:06 PM
Flight Sim: Comanche Maximum Overkill (DOS PC)
Motherfucking fun, and graphically amazing. Utilizing the same Volume Pixel (Voxel) technology that multi-million dollar flight sims used at the time, it's a technological benchmark as well as an amazing sim.
Runner Up: F-22 Lightning 2 (DOS PC)
Fully 3D polygonal environments, beautiful textures, excellent AI, killer soundtrack, heart-attack inducing gameplay, and fearful dogfights. And it's run great on a 486!
Space Sim: FreeSpace 2
I can't really explain this one. (http://www.freespace2.com/)
As of August, 2005, insider info is telling that Volition is still planning on doing FreeSpace 3. With Interplay nearly dead, the rights will be relinquished after their death.
Runner Up: Descent: FreeSpace - The Great War
Much like FreeSpace 2, but it's extremely political.
Does not tie in with the Descent franchise at all - trademark concerns over disk software caused it to be named this in North America. In Europe it is known as "Conflict: FreeSpace - The Great War."
Platformer: Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Genesis)
Four words: Fucking Epic; Battery Backup
Runner Up: Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast)
A quality 3D Sonic game. A rarity...Extremely political too.
FPS: Descent (DOS PC)
FPS/Flight Sim hyrbid. I could go on for hours, but let me just say if you were to fix every flaw with the FPS genre you'd have Descent. Also, the AI hasn't been matched since the shareware version was released 11 years ago...Think of robots with a society, ever-changing tactics, and SWAT like behaviors including sniping, geurilla warfare, blockading, seeking cover, etc. And it's fully dyanamic, never scripted. If you die, they'll change their tactics, and they WILL OUTSMART YOU!
Runner Up: Doom (DOS PC)
It's still more interesting and fun than other games today...12 years later.
Third Place: Daikatana (WINDOWS PC)
Play past the first frog level. Jizz your pants for the remainder of the game. Then flip off the American press for banishing it to the confines of gaming hell, and being pansy "LOL DAIKATANA" sucked anti-fanbois five years later. Proceed to nuke Nation Public Radio's headquarters and drop John Romero a line about how much you liked it via email - his stuff never goes unanswered.
I bought into the negative hype until I played it, too.
Racing Game: Virtua Racing Deluxe (Sega 32X)
Flat shaded polygons. Adrenaline pumping gameplay. Killer framerate. Awesome. Sega's AM2 team at their best.
Runner Up: OutRun 2019 (Genesis)
Uber rare, uber fun. Think about a car that can go 580 MPH...And watch the power guage fill up after hitting that speed. *BRA-KEEEW!*
580-690 in .5 seconds. Hella fun. Stunt ramps factor in pure speed.
Shoot 'Em Up: Halloween Harry (DOS PC)
One of the best games of all time...Unique in all ways. Classic 1990's style cutscenes, fucking vending machines that deal mini-nukes, and awesome, hilarious gameplay.
2D shooting at it's best.
Runner Up: Highway Hunter (DOS PC)
http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/review/R75787.html
You pilot an assault car withy over 50 weapons. Aliens have taken over Earth, and Terraformers being used to make the land more hospitible for the Aliens are killing all human life. Being an enslaved human in the garage, you find your opportunity to steal the Aliens new prototype assualt vehicle, and dash to escape the city. But unlike other shooters, it's not generic as fuck, and it was also coded and designed in Russia.

I'm addicted to WoW, it really is like crack.
I always said I'd never play it; until a guy at work gave me his "guest" pass. I got hooked, and do nothing else. It sucks, but so great at the same time!

RPG, by far. Fighting games are fun for a bit, but you can only see a guy get tossed off a balcony a few times before it gets repetitive. Some of the greats are obviously like Tekken, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, and Street Fighter. On the other hand, RPGs take a shit ton of patience and gaming determination to fully complete (FF7, GTASA, etc). Basically, I like games that aren't short as hell, and I could get royally boned in the ass by some creepy boss the size of Jesus, level up a few levels and come back to make him my bitch. In the end, RPGs rule much better.

Dude, right now I'm picking away at Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. Fucking hard as balls, and the fact that it's an escort mission really don't help the cause.

I prefer RPG's by far. I love a good story with exploring and battles. I pretty much buy every RPG that get's brought overseas. So I guess you could call me an RPG Fanatic. :D
Fighting games tend to get boring after awhile. And there stories tend to be shitty but I guess that's to be expected. Last one I tried was Soul Caliber 2 for PS2. I didn't like it much.
I hate most sports games. I use to like racing car games until they started getting to complicated. I might try one again someday.
I loved SSX & SSX Tricky when they came out. SSX3 not so much. They made it to complicated just like they did with other racing car games.
Anyway my favorite RPG's would be numerous. I haven't found many that are shitty to me.
I can tell you my top 3 RPG's though.
1) Xenogears
2) Final Fantasy IX
3) Legend of Dragoon
I could tell you other RPG's I deem excellent but the list would be far to long.
Another genre I like are Platformers like Ratchet & Clank 1, 2, 3, and Psychonauts.

Dude, yeah. I mainly play PS2 games, but w/e. Right now I have a ton of games I play a lot, most of them I've beaten, including:
GTA:3
DRIV3R
Kingdom Hearts
THPS4
THUG
THUG 2
NSFU
NFSU 2
007 From Russia with Love
You know, games like that. I'm also working on some other ones such as:
Battlefront II
Battlefield 2 Modern Combat
GTA: San Andreas (Almost done)
NFSMW
Burnout: 3
And a few others of less importance.

Hehe, i had the same idea, cept mine was gonna be all like:
Holy Thread Revival Batman
I play games once in a blue moon these days, i mostly just internet and music. Although i do enjoy my RTS, TBS, FPS, RPG and MMORPG's, and racing of course :D
Was playing oblivion, but my graphics card died in the arse, so im using intergrated graphics, it can barely play WoW with lowest of low settings :(
mmm...cheese

With out a doubt....Mega Man....all of them except for that bullshit RPG one and the new "Battle Chip" garbage. from 1 to X3 i think is as far as I bothered to go but I loved every minute of it.
Yeah the old megamans fucking own. I still have most of the games in working condition on a tricked out Super Nintendo. :)
As far as good games go... RTS and MMORPGs are the greatest. I'm into Guild Wars, but I still haven't saved enough for the expansion. :( (Which is why I offered Max oral for 50 cash)
Some other games I like are Zelda (all of em), Super Smash Bro's (all of em), and CS.

I prefer RPGs, but not the WoW kind where you pay 100$ a week. I mainly take interest in action games, strategy games, and racing games (like NFSU, y'know).

Well my favorite genre is the one that has a mixture of Strategy/RPG/Action. So, as you can tell the Zelda Series, are my favorite games.
