1800 additional unactivated members/floaters have been purged from the database!

1081 additional unactivated users removed from our database!

We've also put in 4 conditionals depending on what a users status is (ones for those who have not registered, one for those who have registered but not activated via the e-mail link, one for those who have never posted on our site before, and one for those who have not posted in several weeks to nudge them to participate). Included in each of the conditionals is a detailed step by step description on "what happens next". This should improve things quite a bit.

how bout this as a suggestion,
if a user doesnt post for 2 months, his account gets deleted and if they are going away, and know they cant post, they can inform you beforehand.

Jason

In my experience that would not work.

The #1 reason why it would not, is because we have quite a few posters who haven't visited in ages, and they equal thousands of posts. Once we deleted those users we'll see tons of threads with just "Guest" as the poster and that's quite annoying not knowing who it was.

I really don't have to automate the deletes, it takes 30 seconds from my control panel and I do it every now and then when the 'unactivated' list gets large..

I don't like the idea of having to post every ____ months/days. Sometimes you get other interests, you come back and *poof* no more account...

What would happen if one of the loyal posters end up in the hospital and is unable to post. Or inform you in time before you delete their account.

Example:

I go to the hospital and cannot post for awhile. Will you delete me?. :happysad:

Hopefully.

No, he's deleting accounts that never confirmed their accounts via the email sent when you register.

Jason

We occasionally delete members that fall into these two categories:

1) Registered on our site, but never completed the e-mail link validation.

2) Registered on our site and completed 100%, but never posted anything for a good long time.

You have nothing to worry about with your 800 posts, missy. ;)

Oh 'ell. Sometimes I just get busy for too long and don't get over here to stir chit up. Don't delete me if I'm not here for a while. I'll eventually come back

Im going to make 1x10500th power

Well, I know I'm not the only one that caught this, but 1 to the 10,500th power, is still only 1. 1 x 10 to the 500th power, now that's a hell of a number of accounts to make. Have fun with that one, pal. Better code a hell of a macro.

Anyhow. Woot to Jason! Cleanin' House.

What are the terms for "unactice users"? Because I rarely post here on wtf.com, but I enjoy reading other people's posts.

I just don't want to lose my membership.

You should write a purge random members script :P
