I need guitar shopping help.
Foreword: The purpose of this thread is for any guitarist out there to give helpful advice about guitars they've owned, or guitars they know may do what I'm looking for them to do.
So I'm looking to pick up a new guitar. I've had a few guitars in the past, but none of them have completely satisfied my musical desires.
I'll make it a list for your convenience.
- Six strings
25 frets
Through-neck design
A tremolo system, NOT a floyd rose or any floating design. Ability to easily downtune is nessecary.
Harmonic-enhancing, excessive sustain pickups.
For lack of a better way to put it; tuning machine heads that don't suck.
Basically, I'm looking for a kick-ass metal guitar. My old-school Pre-Dime Dean ML is sick, but it's stuck in standard due to a floyd rose bridge. I have down-tuned it before, but that takes literally forever to get it perfectly tuned.
Any and all serious advice is welcome. Please, no cheap flea-market references. Thanks.

I'll ask my roommates. They're all gear heads... I'll get back to this.

Gibson Les Paul. Expensive, but worth it.
Either that, or look into Ibanez.

you can find what your looking for if you stick with Gibson, Ibanez, Washburn or Fender. Possibly a BC Rich but be careful. Gibson is by far the best with Ibanez in second.

I was initially shopping around with ESP and Washburn. ESP, because they offer a custom shop online that allows you to build a guitar to your specs, but considering I don't have 3,000 dollars to drop at any given time, ESP customs are out. Washburn has treated me good for the ones I've played, but they haven't satisfied me anymore than the Dean I already own has.
Thank you for the feedback, I greatly appreciate it.
p.s. Gibson Les Paul's are a definite possibility. I guess you can't beat the test of time. With musicians like Zakk Wylde and Matt Heafy that use them, I guess you can't go wrong.

ebay always has amazing deals on good guitars, I suggest looking through when you have enough to make a decent purchase.

I've been happy with my Schecter. Before I bought it though, I made sure to check the reviews at www.ultimate-guitar.com and www.harmonycentral.com, they were really helpful.

I have a BC Rich Beast (crazy looking electric) and an Alvarez acoustic (love this one).
The BC Rich, from what I hear, is hit or miss with the sound quality, but I'm not a brilliant guitarist so I just like it for the looks and massive amount of sustain it has. The acoustic is a wonderful instrument, I have no reservations whatsoever in recommending it to you.
edit: pics
edit edit: I noticed you don't like the Floyd Rose, but I'll keep my BC up there anyway lol

Necro, first things first, what style of music do you play?
Second, rhythm or lead?
Lastly, how do you feel about ass to mouth?

I’ve decided that when I come home, I’m going to at least make an attempt to learn the guitar. Me and my buddies used to always hang out and bullshit about starting a band (who hasn’t?), but I think I’m ready to make an honest attempt at it. I figure I’m still young, and it would probably be a good investment( you know, to distract me from buying video games ) for my time and money.
Except I have no clue where to start. My fiancée knows more about guitars then I do, so right now I’m just trying to learn whatever I can about them. Not a whole lot else I can do over here.
But where do you guys recommend I start? Obviously I should keep reading and trying to learn what I can while I’m over here, but what do you think I should actually start with? I know you cant just say “this is the guitar you need to start with,” but I suppose any ideas would help?

Get a cheap guitar and learn tablature. Practice as much as you can, a few hours a day at least. Your fingers will get sore, they might even bleed, but then they'll callous over and you'll be good to go. At that point, take some money and get yourself a guitar that's worth playing.

Firstly, I play a wide variety. I like my heavy, fast, technical speed metal, but I'm also a fan of my distortion pedal to kick into a clean interlude. I'm just now starting to get into fast solos; so I need to get ahold of something that will produce good long sustain on those insane 1.5 step bends, and will ring harmonics out like nothing.
Secondly, lead. Duh.
And lastly, I'm not a fan of anal. Nothing like poop dick to ruin your afternoon. And to eliminate confusion that someone will obviously bring up, I'm not homosexual by any stretch of the imagination.

From what you said you might want to try out a few from B.C. Rich.
I haven't had many chances to play different types of theirs, but like it was said before they are either hit or miss, but if you find a good one it's pretty hard to put it down.

Here you go.
I suggest the rga series, but if you'd rather buy a signature, heck, those guys don't have their own guitar models for nothing.
