Answered: Army or Marines?
Should I join the Army or the Marines? It's been my personal dilemma for the past 6 years. My dad isn't any help, seeing as he approves of neither and would prefer me to join the Air Force. But, I'm slightly color blind, so that's out of the question. Can anyone with experience in this matter help me out? I'm off to Texas in 6 months to enlist, I just need a little more knowledge on which to pick.

In the Corps, you'll have a lot of pride, and you'll have gone through the hardest there is to offer.
In the Army, you have more control over your career.
But you can always go to the corps for 4, then go to the army and not have to go throught their basic training. I did that.

You will be treated more like a person in the Army and have a better selection of jobs that translate into civilian careers.

I believe that they only require color vision if you want to become a pilot.
So, Air Force.

You also have to be within a certain height, have vision correctable to 20/20, within a certain height range depending on the plane.
And an officer.
And basically the absolute best of the best in the AF. Those planes are pricey.
On the other hand you generally don't have to worry about being on the front lines for the most part (depending on career), the living arrangements and such are comparatively cushy, and basic is a little easier in a few aspects.

The Navy, and the Marines have many more pilots.
The color blindness is going to be an issue for combat posistions if that's what you have your eye on.
If you want an office job join the Air Force, or the Navy.

I'd much rather be a soldier than a pilot. And if I wanted to be a janitor/drunk I'll join the Navy. Anywho, I like your points Hos. Maybe I might just do the same.

If you go to the marines... check out the movie full metal jacket and jarhead... they give a good representation of what goes on. Also read the UCMJ no matter what branch you choose... and dont leave for bootcamp unless you have the exact job you want. Get your bonuses in writing and work out like a mo fo.... i think the army are a bunch of wimps... so i did the marine thing.
The marines will teach you better what to do in a combat situation... which is after all what you'll be in. And if anyone says you wont be in combat... they're stupid... even desk clerks see some level of combat... and you want to know what to do when the shit hits the fan.
